The front-drive only Civic Hatchback is available with two drivetrains. The base Sport runs with a serviceable 150-hp 133 lb-ft 2.0L naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine hooked to a CVT (continuously variable transmission). Moving up to the Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid nets a hybridized version of that 2.0L with two electric motors that sips less fuel and puts out a meaningful 200 horses and 232 lb-ft of torque. With either powertrain, the Civic Hatchback delivers nimble handling and a refined ride.
Natural Resources Canada rates the Sport at 7.7 L/100 km city, 6.1 highway and 7.0 combined on regular grade fuel. The hybrid models are considerably more sanctimonious at 4.8 L/100 km city, 5.4 highway and 5.0 combined.

This 11th generation Civic has a roomy interior with generous shoulder room, rear legroom and headroom. Forward visibility is good thanks to the Civic’s low belt line, thin A-pillars and door-mounted mirrors that don’t obstruct the view when cornering. This cabin is all about easy familiarity and logical ergonomics. Quality is top-notch, and the narrow band of honey-comb grill that spans the width of the dash is a delightfully classy design element. A 7-inch central touchscreen is standard – only the top Hybrid Touring gets a 9-inch screen with upgrade 12-speaker Bose, wireless phone mirroring and Google built-in.
Up front there’s plenty of useful storage – a rubberized storage/phone charge shelf ahead of the shifter, and a generous covered bin between the seats. The 60/40 split rear bench easily folds to create nearly a flat floor. With the seats upright there is a generous 639L of cargo space, coverable by a clever “blind” that pulls out from the left-hand side. No cumbersome hard cover to deal with.
The four-cylinder gas-only Civic Hatchback Sport model starts at $35,176. Moving into hybrid territory requires $38,971 for the Sport Hybrid. The leather trimmed Sport Touring Hybrid starts at $42,471.
