PlayStation

For more than 25 years, Sony’s PlayStation has been synonymous with gaming. It’s given players experiences like God of War, The Last of Us, and Final Fantasy VII alongside technological innovations from CD-ROMs all the way up to 4K, VR, and cloud gaming. There have even been attempts at portable gaming with the PSP and Vita. Across multiple generations the company has been a pioneer, starting with the original PlayStation and continuing with the PS5.

Dash those Bloodborne remake hopes.

In his deep dive about PlayStation’s closure of Bluepoint Games, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier says that Bluepoint pitched a Bloodborne remake in 2025, but FromSoftware “didn’t want it to happen.” Bummer.

PS5 Pro players are getting an upscaling upgrade.

An improved version of Playstation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) is rolling out on the PS5 Pro “in the coming weeks,” starting with Resident Evil Requiem. In March, “multiple existing games” will also get support for the new version of PSSR, which could deliver upscaling quality similar to AMD’s FSR 4.

Want to try the new God of War roguelike mode?

Input this twist on a familiar code to unlock it early in the recently-released Sons of Sparta: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, L1, R1, touchpad.

Looks fun; I really liked the roguelike mode in God of War Ragnarök.

Death Stranding 2 will get a 21:9 ultrawide mode on PS5, not just on PC.

Death Stranding 2 is coming to PC on March 19th, and the system requirements are fairly relaxed, except for needing 150GB of SSD storage — an especially tough ask for portable players (who are getting their own graphics preset). A 21:9 ultrawide mode is coming to PC and the PS5. Although, it seems likely that the effect will be simulated on PS5 like it was with its predecessor, with horizontal black bars and a wider field of view.

An image that shows the PC system requirements for Death Stranding 2. The minimum spec to enjoy 1080p gaming at 30 frames per second includes Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1660 and 10th Gen Intel CPUs and Ryzen 3 3rd Gen CPUs, 16GB of RAM. Its other tiers don’t ramp up specs dramatically; the “very high” rig to get 4K at 60 frames per second includes Nvidia’s RTX 4080 or AMD’s Radeon 9070 XT, at least a high-end 11th Gen Intel CPU or Ryzen 7 5th gen CPU. All PCs require 150GB of available SSD space.

Here’s what Bungie is doing to try and stop cheaters in Marathon.

Among other things, Marathon will have dedicated servers, a “Fog of War” that “limits the regions of a map that individual player clients have knowledge of,” and a rebuilt game security stack, Bungie says in a new blog post.

Cheaters will also be permabanned with “no second chances,” which is different from Arc Raiders’ three-strike policy.

Right now it’s just called the Untitled John Wick Game, so it seems really early in development. It will feature an “original script set in the John Wick timeline.” The game is a “collaboration between Saber, Lionsgate, and franchise director Chad Stahelski.”

A new Castlevania? In this economy?

Yes, it’s true, Konami remembered that the vampire-slaying series exists, and the new game looks sick as hell. It”s described as a “2D action-exploration” developed Evil Empire and Motion Twin, of Dead Cells fame. Launching later this year.

Bad Robot’s big new game is kind of giving me Returnal vibes.

Sony will be publishing it, and thanks to a new trailer, now we can get a sense of 4 Loop’s co-operative, roguelike-y gameplay. The team is led by Left 4 Dead designer Mike Booth, so I’m optimistic that it will be a good multiplayer game. You can sign up for playtests now.

Horizon franchise creator Guerrilla Games is mostly focused on Horizon Hunters Gathering, its just-announced co-op title, Kotaku reports. One source suggested to Kotaku that the third mainline entry in the series could be three to five years away.

In the meantime, you should play the Forbidden West DLC, it’s excellent.

Sony has now shipped 92.2 million PS5 consoles.

Sony shipped 8 million PS5 consoles over the recent holiday quarter. While that’s down 16 percent year-over-year, it’s still nearly the same amount of PS4 shipments Sony managed during the same period of its lifecycle. In fact, VGC points out that the PS5 has been pretty much aligned with Sony’s PS4 shipments in the months since its launch.
