Listen to this carefully! The ballot will not move the yellow line further away, rebuild your home that Israel blew up, move the armed settler affront of your home or end an occupation on its own. It doesn’t. We vote because the vote itself is defiance.
A century ago, the world handed us a word for what we were: a “Mandate”, a people whose future got decided in other countries’, without anyone asking us, because we supposedly weren’t ready to decide it ourselves. That paternalism persisted long after the Nakba until we took ownership of our destiny, forged our own institutions, and established the PLO.
Every vote we cast answers that word directly: we are not mandated. Not by an occupation. Not by anyone else’s timeline. Not by anyone who has ever mistaken our silence for our consent.
