Israel’s 12th battalion rifle company under its commander Major. Gilad took the building. Soldiers photographed themselves inside it, posing with Israeli flags. Then forces from the 7th brigade combat team arrived and blew it up.
According to testimony from the 12th Battalion company commander, the building was empty, nothing was found, no tunnels ran beneath the building, and no weapons were discovered inside. The building’s archives, documenting decades of Palestinian legislative history, were taken to Israel according to separate testimony. By the officers’ own account, the structure was demolished for one reason: simply because it stood as a symbol of Hamas.
