    I have been thinking about this quite a lot and if we take Dwarkesh's essay seriously its undeniable that current model development is exactly equivalent to Gain Of Function and if thats your framework the conversation around all AI development questions changes dramatically

    See I am the total opposite: "read lots of books" guys are free. We flit from subject to subject, get to 90% on a variety of topics, draw connections the experts could never make, and don't get caught up in byzantine technical debates that nobody actually cares about

    there's a certain melancholy to being a "read lots of books" guy, you can read five good books on a subject and probably be in the at least 90th percentile of knowledge on it, but compared to a real expert, you might as well have read zero
