Hi Monique
Just my perspective as a consumer and someone paying close attention to what advertisers are actually being positioned next to—there is a huge advertising opportunity being completely pissed away.
When the same accounts are allowed to repeatedly push propaganda and openly hateful rhetoric like “get rid of all Muslims” or “get rid of all woke reich it becomes more than a content-moderation issue. It becomes a direct threat to the value of the advertising platform.
This eroded programming is on repeat and scares the potential clients away.
Because here’s the uncomfortable question: What serious brand wants its name, money, and reputation sitting next to content advocating that an entire group of people should be eliminated? That isn’t edgy engagement. That’s toxic inventory.
If I were sitting on the advertising side, I’d be looking at this very differently. You could dramatically increase the value of the platform simply by getting ruthless about the accounts poisoning the advertising environment. Give advertisers confidence that their brands won’t be dragged through someone else’s propaganda war, and suddenly you have a much more attractive product to sell.
There is an enormous amount of advertising growth sitting right in front of you. The issue isn’t a lack of advertisers—it’s that the platform is allowing a small number of relentlessly toxic accounts to devalue the space everyone else is paying to advertise in.
Thank you
