Introducing our final panelist for tonight's webinar, Jim Turk of the Centre for Free Expression.
Jim is the founder and director of the Centre for Free Expression (CFE) at Toronto Metropolitan University and leads CFE’s work with libraries across Canada in defending and promoting intellectual freedom. Previously, he served as Executive Director of the Canadian Association of University Teachers and formerly taught Canadian Studies at the University of Toronto and headed the labour studies program at University College. He has received numerous awards for his work. In 2024, he was honoured by being named the first recipient of the Canadian Federation of Library Associations Intellectual Freedom Award for outstanding contributions to intellectual freedom in Canada. Previously, he had received the Les Fowlie Intellectual Freedom Award from the Ontario Library Association, and the Milner Memorial Award from the Canadian Association of University Teachers for significant contributions to the understanding and strengthening of academic freedom in Canada.
