When Thomas Mair killed Joe Cox the media (within hours) revealed he was "far-right". The next day they published details of his alleged "far-right" connections, including what magazines he had subscribed to etc. Widdecombe's case has been effectively shut down for 11 months.

Watching from a distance (US), one does wonder. In a country that is such a kakistocracy, in that they jail people for online posts, how do they fare when they have to prosecute a real crime?

I doubt the establishment are going to allow this to actually do to trial. My money is on them 'engineering' a guilty plea. Thereby letting all the establishment implicating evidence being memory-holed.
