This unique approach allows us to report essential stories that others miss, for the most powerful people in the country — earning us a loyal audience of influential policymakers and political players from across the ideological spectrum.

Senior Off-Platform Content Producer

About the Role:

The Washington Sun is looking for a growth-oriented editor/producer/guru who is obsessed with getting our content in front of as many people as possible — across all platforms and mediums.

This person will be a creative thinker and collaborative colleague who works closely with the entire newsroom to produce versions of our journalism that will drive off-platform engagement. They will translate our journalism into animations, videos and other formats that connect with users of Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn and other platforms.

What Does Success Look Like?

  • Our journalism consistently reaches audiences well beyond our website while maintaining our editorial integrity and high ethical standards.
  • We build meaningful new audiences and garner paid subscribers — not just fleeting viral moments.
  • Our off-platform presence becomes a competitive advantage and a core part of our editorial and commercial strategy.

What You’ll Do:

  • Produce videos, graphics, explainers, memes, clips, carousels and other formats that help people find our journalism.
  • Work closely with editors and reporters to ensure off--platform content is considered from the start — not as an afterthought.
  • Analyze platform performance and turn those insights into actionable recommendations for the newsroom.
  • Build relationships with platforms, content creators and other influencers who can help expand our reach.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience creating social-first content, from videos to animations and graphics. Experience helping reporters translate their stories into video formats.
  • Deep understanding of what works on TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, X, etc. Willingness to experiment on emerging platforms.
  • Understanding of data analytics and ability to discern what is working and what is not.
  • Experience and comfort behind a camera is important. Comfort in front of one is a bonus.
  • Excellent communicator who approaches all tasks with a spirit of collaboration and open-mindedness.
  • Ability to identify stories with breakout potential and shape creative assets specifically for each platform’s audience and algorithms.
