On 22 October, members of the 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭 𝐏𝐮𝐦𝐩 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 met in Brussels and online for their 6th meeting, exploring practical ways to accelerate heat pump deployment across Europe. Discussions connected the 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧 with concrete steps on 🔹 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠: Improving electricity-to-gas price ratios and expanding financing options, including social leasing, can help consumers overcome cost barriers. 🔹 𝐄𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: The Flemish Heat Pump Action plan and Buildwise tools showed how better building information, comparable quotations and simpler sizing calculations can support homeowners and installers. 🔹 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Differing national certification requirements make cross-border work more difficult. The forthcoming Construction Services Act could help reduce these barriers and facilitate heat pump installation services across the EU. 🔹 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚��𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: The research and innovation roadmap for heat pumps identifies 80 measures to support deployment in buildings, industry and district heating. Innovation and natural refrigerants offer opportunities for European manufacturers, while stable demand remains essential. 📈 The European Heat Pump Association reported an 11% increase in heat pump sales in the first half of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025. Building regulations and permitting are likely to be the focus of the platform’s third position paper, exploring how clearer planning, noise and distance requirements can make installations easier. Looking ahead, discussions highlighted the value of connecting EU-level action with national implementation and strengthening cooperation between public authorities, financial institutions and the heat pump sector. The Western European Nuclear Regulators Association (WENRA) has proposed these topics on the basis of their safety significance, regulatory relevance, and technical merits. The next Topical Peer Review (TPR) - an EU-wide review conducted by experts from EU countries on a selected nuclear safety topic – will start in 2027. The TPR system was established under the Euratom Nuclear safety Directive and its purpose is to share experience, identify good practices and common challenges, and recommend follow-up actions to address any findings on the selected topic. Commissioners Dan Jørgensen and Andrius Kubilius have chaired the first 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 👇 In a rapidly changing geopolitical environment, we must strengthen Europe’s energy security, defence readiness and industrial competitiveness 🌍 ⚡ For the first meeting, Commissioners Jørgensen and Kubilius were joined by representatives from the refining sector, European refiners, emerging fuel producers, engineering companies, technology providers, relevant industry associations and NATO. Help shape the forthcoming Hydrogen Strategy ⬇️ The European Commission has launched 🔹 a call for evidence 🔹 a targeted stakeholder consultation Both will remain open for 4 weeks until 23 November. Energy efficiency is part of the answer to Europe's housing affordability challenge 🏠 Every euro invested is estimated to generate €12 in savings for households. The harder question is how to finance it at scale 🤔 💶 On 20 October, more than 100 experts met in Brussels to kick off the 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐩 𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐟𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠, set up under the European Energy Efficiency Financing Coalition together with the Pan-European Housing Investment Platform. Participants included policy makers and public administrations, public and private banks and investors, industry and other housing stakeholders. Over the next 18 months, the group will work on ✔ funding models for social, affordable and sustainable housing ✔ scaling up innovation in the construction sector ✔ digitalisation of funding applications 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑖𝑚: blueprints, financing toolkits and templates that help affordable, energy-efficient housing projects access the funding they need.
