"7 months. 99 workouts. 1 million pounds lifted. Not a single missed week." That’s what one Tonal member shared recently on Reddit after hitting the Million Pound Club and closing in on their 100th session. What stands out isn’t the numbers. It’s the transformation. “I’ve always struggled to start — and stick with — a consistent workout routine… Tonal has truly been life-changing.” We hear stories like this every day. On Reddit. In our Facebook group. In direct emails to our coaches and our product and leadership teams. Different goals, ages, and backgrounds, but the same emotional breakthrough: “I finally made exercise stick.” That’s not luck. It’s design. Tonal isn’t just a smart weight stack. It’s a consistency machine. And the data backs it up: - The average (mean) Tonal membership trains more than 10 times per month. - Over 90% of memberships stay active for years. - Compare that to the traditional gym, where nearly half of new members quit within six months (ABC Fitness, 2023). Our most engaged users, like the one above, train five or six days a week and build streaks that last months...even years. This isn’t about willpower. It’s behavioral science made frictionless: - No commute. No setup. Workouts start in seconds. - Structured workouts & programs reduce decision fatigue. - Progress is visible and rewarding; from milestone badges to weekly streaks, volume PRs, and personalized cues. These aren’t just nice features. They’re the exact principles that make habits stick: make it obvious, make it easy, make it attractive, make it satisfying (Clear, 2018). Tonal doesn’t just follow these rules; we build them in as central components to the experience. Consistency is the foundation of all fitness goals. Strength, longevity and healthspan, better physical and mental health; all of it starts with showing up. Tonal helps people do that better than anything most have ever tried. For thousands of members, this is the first time fitness has truly clicked. #evidencebasedfitness #tonal #fitness

Staying Grounded in a World Full of Noise: Five Filters I Use to Cut Through Health & Fitness Misinformation Being a science-informed fitness, wellness, or nutrition practitioner in 2025 may be harder than at any point in my 20+ year career. The peer-review process unfortunately has flaws. Some government health guidance includes fictitious citations. And across social media, people with impressive degrees, M.D., DC, PhD, DPT, N.D., and others, often comment on topics far outside their actual expertise or for their own financial gain. Here are five filters I apply to stay grounded and critical in today’s information landscape: 🔶 1. “Only a Sith deals in absolutes.” Obi-Wan Kenobi If a post claims there’s one “best,” “worst,” or “correct” way to train or eat-treat it as a red flag. Human physiology is rarely black and white. Context, goals, doses, effect sizes and individual differences all matter. 🔶 2. “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” Jim Rohn Echo chambers feel good but stunt growth. Actively seek out credible opposing perspectives. Even if you don’t agree, they sharpen your understanding and highlight blind spots. 🔶 3. “Show me the incentive, and I’ll show you the outcome.” Charlie Munger Bias is often structural. In my experience funding millions in university research, industry can choose what to fund (selection bias), but rarely can they influence methods or results. The stronger bias often comes from influencers with businesses, books, or sponsors tied to specific narratives. When you read my content, know I work for an intelligent strength training company. That doesn’t make me biased in a bad way, but it’s still a bias worth acknowledging. 🔶 4. “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.” Albert Einstein Learning to interpret research is essential. Abstracts simplify. Conclusions stretch. Even peer-reviewed studies can be flawed. Understand study design, statistical approaches, and real-world application or risk relying on someone else’s (possibly biased) summary. If you’re going to rely on someone else’s summary, try to get multiple sources of information and check that their credentials align with the topic area and that they’re not financially or ideologically tied to a single interpretation of the data. 🔶 5. “One study is just one brick, it’s not the whole house.” Unknown Science builds through the totality of evidence, not isolated findings. Meta-analyses and systematic reviews, while imperfect, offer a clearer picture than any single paper. They help filter noise and highlight what consistently holds up across studies. In a world full of noise, anchoring yourself to critical thinking, curiosity, and context isn’t optional, it’s essential. #evidencebased #fitness #nutrition #health #wellness
