As a Jersey girl, my Memorial Day consists of GTL: gym, tanning (it's finally warm!) and laundry. Any Jersey Shore fans here? Driving to the gym, I drove past the American Legion which was setting up for a memorial for fallen soldiers. It reminded me of how lucky I am to have the freedom and luxury to gym, tan, and yes... wash my clothes. Have a meaningful Memorial Day.

  • Boo! What to Do When a Candidate Ghosts You—Even After Signing the Offer Letter As a recruiter or Talent Acquisition professional, few things are more disheartening than having a candidate vanish after you've done everything right. You kept in touch, addressed their concerns, and guided them through every step of the hiring process. They verbally accepted the offer—and even signed the offer letter. Everything pointed toward a successful close. But then… silence. Ghosting is tough in any stage of recruiting, but it hits harder when it happens after a signed offer. At that point, hiring managers are informed, onboarding may be in motion, and expectations are high. The human factor, however, remains unpredictable. Circumstances change, counteroffers happen, or sometimes, people simply get cold feet and avoid confrontation by going dark. While frustrating, this kind of situation is a critical reminder of one of the most important rules in recruiting: never put all your eggs in one basket. Even after a candidate signs an offer, it’s essential to keep a few others warm in your pipeline. Always maintain momentum with multiple candidates in various stages of the process. That way, if someone pulls out—or ghosts—you’re not starting from scratch. You can pivot quickly and minimize the disruption to the business. The best recruiters and Talent Acquisition professionals balance confidence with contingency. Until a candidate shows up on day one, it’s smart to expect the unexpected. So if you find yourself ghosted after a signed offer, don’t dwell. Stay professional, notify stakeholders, and shift focus to your next best options. The right candidate is still out there—and you’ll be ready. If you have had a ghosting situation, feel free to message me and I will help walk you through the chaos.

  • For new followers, I will share some fun facts about our team. Me (Jen Madera)- I love to dress up. Even when I'm working from home, I do my hair, makeup and wear a fully coordinated outfit. Judy Doyle- Judy is a master gardener. You name it, she can grow it. She used to start my garden for me every spring until she moved. :-( Jess Amsid- Jess still remembers the full names of the candidates she placed for the first time, and she still visits their LinkedIn pages from time to time. Side note: Jess is The People Placers' private detective. She is always scouring social media for us. Kathy Corcega- Kathy was a dancer in high school. She was always joining dancing contests and also helped her sister choreograph her dance routine for a competition. Pam Villalon- Pam wears gold jewelry every day, day and night—even in the shower! She buys pieces that are quality and durable for daily wear without being overly expensive. There's something about it that gives her a boost of confidence, a subtle reminder to keep her standards high and always choose and give the best to herself.
