  • Meet Elsamarie, a dedicated night nurse at JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute’s 1 East for over 24 years. She expertly manages workloads, assesses new patients and supports staffing across units, prioritizing patient safety. Elsamarie is passionate about rehabilitation nursing, valuing the relationships built and witnessing patients regain independence. Unlike acute care settings, rehab nursing focuses on long-term recovery, requiring specialized skills like in-depth assessments, understanding the recovery process and promoting patient mobility. Elsamarie emphasizes the importance of patience, communication and teamwork in this field. While acknowledging the challenges of motivating patients through difficult recoveries, she finds immense pride in their progress, particularly those regaining lost abilities. The strong team environment on 1 East, where colleagues support each other and contribute to positive patient outcomes, further fuels her dedication to this rewarding specialty.
