Straight from the CEO of FM Talent, Dawn Hendricks…
Federal work hasn’t gone away—it’s shifting. Even in the wake of widespread federal layoffs, I'm hearing from contracting agencies that opportunities are still out there—RFPs are flowing, bids are being won, and major government projects are moving forward. Here’s what’s really happening: While direct federal hiring has slowed and many positions have been cut, the work hasn’t disappeared. Agencies still need support—they're just filling gaps through contract staffing. For laid-off federal employees: You’re still in demand. Firms like FM Talent and others that staff federal contracts are looking for people who understand compliance, internal systems, and how agencies actually get things done. For contractors: This is your window. Agencies that previously relied on internal teams are leaning on the private sector. Dust off those proposals and position yourself to scale. A heads-up: Contracting compensation may not match GS-level benefits or your previous rates—but for many, it’s a solid path back into meaningful federal work. If you're exploring re-entry through federal contracting, reach out to FM Talent.
