Displaced families in Gaza's tent camps are now confronting snakes slipping into their shelters, one more danger on top of the rats, insects and disease already tearing through the camps. Snakes, some of them venomous, are turning up among the tents this summer as the heat drives them in, entering shelters where roughly a million people, about 170,000 households, are living under thin nylon on bare ground for the third summer since October 2023, while the Israeli occupation keeps out proper tents and shelter materials. Residents and aid groups describe parents forced to keep watch through the night over children who sleep on the floor, already bitten by rats and swarmed by flies and mosquitoes, and now with snakes moving between the tents. Human rights group B'Tselem and Save the Children have documented the infestation across more than 80 percent of displacement sites examined, with almost no pesticide and no real response possible under the blockade. ehab_nuor (IG)
