    A Nobel laureate walked into a Canadian physics department in 1977 and talked for over an hour about the force nobody could calculate. The tape survived. This is Richard Feynman at Simon Fraser University, speaking to the physics faculty. Not a public lecture, not a broadcast. A working talk to specialists. Feynman won the 1965 Nobel Prize for quantum electrodynamics. The strong force was the harder case: the interaction binding quarks, where the usual approximation methods break down completely. The last section is questions from the room. Physicists pressing a physicist, no filter, no audience to perform for. Watch how he handles the parts that were unsettled in 1977. He marks the boundary between what was known and what was still guesswork, out loud. A theoretical physicist I know rewatched the question section twice and said it showed how the field actually argued before the textbooks tidied it up.
