Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian pilot of flydubai flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv, was stabbed in the cockpit by his co-pilot. Despite heavy blood loss, he unlocked the flight-deck door, allowing the crew and passengers to restrain the attacker before the aircraft could be brought down. The Boeing 737 was diverted and landed safely at Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. He is now being transferred to Abu Dhabi for specialist care. The Indian ambassador says he is recovering well.
