A 27-year-old criminal who raped an intoxicated and "barely conscious" 17-year-old girl has been refused bail ahead of his conviction appeal.
Jibola Moses Akanni of Drogheda, Co Louth, was found guilty by a Central Criminal Court jury of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault at an apartment in Dublin city centre, on February 15, 2018.
He was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison by Mr Justice David Keane last June.

- I am sick to death of these stories! Every day! @OCallaghanJim @SimonHarrisTD @PearseDoherty There is blood on all your hands for letting this continue to happen in Ireland. Do your jobs!
- Will he be deported when he’s released? We don’t anymore of them here. They need to go home. Irish women are not safe
- Should have deported him in 2016 and he wouldn't have been here to rape anyone in 2018... Irelands relaxed immigration stance is causing Irish girls to be raped by imports who shouldn't have been here to rape anyone to begin with.
