Over the past three years multiple organizations including Amnesty, UN bodies and scholars have highlighted the unprecedented levels of destruction inflicted by Israeli forces in the occupied Gaza Strip.
Now Google has updated the publicly available images for some neighbourhoods to February 2026 and the horrifying extent of this destruction is available for all to see. The chilling satellite imagery shows entire neighbourhoods across the Gaza Strip have been completely wiped out.
According to the UN Satellite Centre (UNOSAT) around 82% of all structures in the Gaza Strip have been damaged and two thirds of these destroyed in an area less than half the size of New York City. At least 1.4 million Palestinians in Gaza have been displaced and grapple with harsh living conditions.
These scenes of destruction are a chilling testament to Israel’s ongoing campaign of systematic wanton destruction in Gaza documented by Amnesty.
The sheer scale of the devastation points to a deliberate pattern by Israeli authorities of razing civilian areas and rendering them uninhabitable as part of their ongoing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. This must end now.
Israel must allow shelter and reconstruction material and equipment into Gaza and ensure people internally displaced can return to their lands, including to areas behind the so-called yellow line.
