In 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower renamed it Camp David. He found “Shangri-La” “just a little fancy for a Kansas farm boy” and chose the new name primarily in honor of his young grandson, Dwight David Eisenhower II (known as David Eisenhower, born 1948).
