🗣 Free Speech Union ✊ on X: "CASE UPDATE: The Nursing Council's prosecutors wanted Cath Simpson struck off over a handful of posts on her personal X account, on contested political issues including abortion law and gender identity. You might disagree with what she said, but that's not the point. Cath posted in her own time, didn't identify herself as a nurse in any of the posts in question, and no patient or colleague complained. The Tribunal still suspended her for two months. It also ordered her to complete a postgraduate qualification by 2028, at her own cost, covering "racism and the impacts of colonisation" and "gender and sexual diversity". Ironically, Cath is being asked to learn about "the impact of colonisation" even though the posts she was censured for did not refer to Māori or race relations in New Zealand.  In the Tribunals own words, there is "no evidence before the Tribunal which would contradict the submission that she is a capable nurse." So what exactly is Cath being re-educated for? Twenty of New Zealand's most powerful regulators, the Nursing Council among them, now have a neutrality statement, committing them to protecting professionals' speech. We are inviting them to adopt this statement as policy.  🔗 You can read it and send it to them yourself: https://t.co/s4ufqVJHzg"
