Use Google Calendar with a screen reader

If you use a screen reader in Google Calendar, you can:

  • Create and track events
  • Send invites to others
  • Accept or reject invitations

Turn on the TalkBack screen reader

  1. Open the Settings app .
  2. Tap Accessibility and then TalkBack.
  3. Turn on TalkBack.
  4. Tap OK.

Navigate with TalkBack

These controls are at the top of your screen:

  • Month name: If you're in schedule view, day view, or week view, to show or hide a list of dates to pick from, double-tap the month name.
  • Jump to today: Double-tap to move your focus to today.
  • More options: Double-tap to open a menu with the option to refresh your calendar. Two-finger swipe left to close this menu.
  • Calendar list and settings drawer: Double-tap to open and explore this section. Two-finger swipe left to close it. The menu includes:
    • Calendar views, which include Schedule, Day, Week, and Month
    • Search
    • A list of your calendars
    • Settings
    • Help and Feedback

Create an event, reminder, or task

  1. To select “Create new event,” swipe down then up in one motion.
  2. Double-tap the screen.
  3. Select Event, Reminder, or Goal.
  4. To select the buttons, swipe up, down, left, or right.
  5. Double-tap the screen.
  6. Complete the event details.

Check your schedule of events, reminders & goals

When you open your calendar, you'll be in "Schedule view" by default.

  • Move between events, reminders, and goals: Swipe left, right, up, or down.
  • Scroll to earlier or later dates: Two-finger swipe up or down.
  • View and edit the focused event, reminder, or goal: Double-tap.

Check a single day schedule

  • Move focus onto the first event, reminder, or goal of the day: Swipe right or down.
  • Move between events, reminders, or goals: Swipe right, left, up, or down.
  • View and edit the focused event, reminder, or goal: Double-tap.
  • Create an event if your focus is on an empty hour: Double-tap.
  • Move to the beginning or end of the day: Two-finger swipe up or down.
  • Move to the previous or next day: Two-finger swipe left or right.

Check the whole week schedule

  • Move to the previous or next day: Two-finger swipe left or right.
  • Move focus onto the first event, reminder, or goal of the day: Swipe right or down.
  • Move to the previous or next event, reminder, or goal: Swipe right, left, up, or down.
  • View and edit the focused event, reminder, or goal: Double-tap.
  • Create an event if your focus is on an empty hour: Double-tap.

Pick a date in date picker

In schedule view, day view, or week view, to pick from days in the month, double-tap the month name in the header.

  • Move focus to the previous day: Swipe left or up.
  • Move focus to the next day: Swipe right or down.
  • Move focus to the first day of the previous month: Two-finger swipe right.
  • Move focus on the first day of the following month: Two-finger swipe left.
  • Move the focus one day at a time: Move your finger over the month.
  • Close month view and go to the focused day: Double-tap.
  • Exit the month view without changing to a different day: Swipe down then left.

Check the whole month schedule

  • Move to the previous or next month: Two-finger swipe left or right.
  • Move one event at a time: Swipe left or right.
  • Open the currently focused day: Double-tap.
  • Exit the day and return to the month view: Swipe down then left.

Check an event, reminder, or goal

  • Move to the next part of the event, reminder, or goal: Swipe right or down.
  • Move to the previous part of the event, reminder, or goal: Swipe left or up.
  • Exit and go to the last place you focused: Swipe down then left.

Create or edit an event

  • Move to the previous field: Swipe left or up.
  • Move to the next field: Swipe right or down.
  • Exit the edit or create view and go back to the last place you focused: Swipe down then left.
