Prepared

Sam has been busy. We decided not to stock up on gherkins and marmalade, as suggested by the Labour Party, but as far as lights are concerned Sam decided not to wait for them to go out. Yesterday he busied himself putting up a solar panel on the front of our house and wiring it up to a large car battery in his workshop. He took lots of tiles off on the lower roof temporarily when he did this, and I hoped against hope that it wouldn’t rain. Sam says the battery will be enough to power 6 LED lights around the house. Unfortunately one panel won’t generate enough charge for me to be able to dry and straighten my hair; at least another 10 panels will need to be ordered to do that!

The Government reckons we ought to stock up on wind-up radios and torches, and surprise surprise these items have been selling fast in the shops. We also ought to have 3 days of tinned foods to live on in case of an emergency. I’ve got a feeling they know something’s going to happen, and they’re not telling us what it is. Whatever it is it means the electricity will be out for a number of days. Let’s hope the weather isn’t too cloudy when this happens!

We have a gas barbeque sitting all ready for use in the shed, and a stock of coal in the garden for the open fire in our dining room. We’re prepared for whatever is coming around the corner. Are you?
