JavaScript Foundation teaches developers the core of modern JavaScript across three hands-on days. The language runs nearly every web front end, and it also powers back-end services through Node.js. Attendees learn the language from the ground up using current best practices. By the end, they can build useful web pages and write clean, maintainable JavaScript.
Day one covers the fundamentals. After a JavaScript overview, attendees set up their tools and write their first programs. Next, they work through syntax, variables, and operators, followed by types and flow control. The day ends with functions, including parameters, return values, and arrow functions.
On day two, the focus shifts to structuring programs. First, attendees work with arrays, objects, and other collections. They then model data with classes and basic object-oriented features. After that, a functional programming module introduces techniques like map, filter, and reduce. Finally, attendees organize code into ES modules and manage dependencies with npm.
Day three puts JavaScript to work in the browser. To start, attendees learn error handling and debugging with browser developer tools. The asynchronous programming model follows, covering callbacks, Promises, and async/await. Attendees then use the Document Object Model (DOM) to read and change page elements and respond to user events. In the last module, they combine CSS and the Fetch API to build an interactive page that loads live data. Every module includes a hands-on lab, so attendees practice each skill as they learn it.
Who Should Attend
Developers, QA Staff, Technical Managers
What Attendees Will Learn
Upon completing JavaScript Foundation, attendees will be able to:
- Write JavaScript programs using modern syntax, variables, operators, and flow control
- Work with JavaScript’s type system, arrays, and objects
- Design and build reusable functions
- Model data using classes and basic object-oriented features
- Apply functional programming techniques such as map, filter, and reduce
- Organize code using ES modules and npm packages
- Handle errors and debug JavaScript using browser and Node.js tools
- Write asynchronous code using Promises and async/await
- Build interactive web pages using the DOM, events, CSS, and the Fetch API
Prerequisites
Attendees should have prior experience with at least one programming language. However, no prior JavaScript experience is required. Basic familiarity with HTML is also helpful, such as that taught in “RX-M HTML5, CSS3 and Responsive Design Foundation“.
