Nominators must complete our online form, providing information on the nominated party’s relevance within its context, along with the methods, achievements, and impact that make it stand out.
Nominations must be kept confidential by all parties. Publicly sharing a nomination could render the nominated party ineligible for the selection process.
We are looking for individuals and organisations who are advancing justice, peace and sustainability. What sets them apart is pairing bold vision with concrete action and offering practical solutions to urgent problems, while challenging the systems that cause them.
No. We deliberately avoid categories, so nominations are judged on the strength of their impact, allowing us to recognise a wide range of approaches across different regions and issues.
Every Award cycle runs from January, when the deadline to submit nominations closes, until September, when the Laureates are announced.
It is uncommon for a nomination to be selected in the same year that it was submitted. This means that a nomination may remain active for a number of years given the in-depth research process carried out by our team.
At the end of every award cycle (end of September), all nominations are notified of the Jury’s decision regarding their status.
If a nomination does not advance in the selection process, it can be resubmitted after three years.
They are asked to provide basic information about their work upon request and to submit an annual update. If a nominated party fails to send an update for two consecutive years, their nomination will be withdrawn from the selection process. In addition, they must keep all nominations confidential. Publicly sharing a nomination may render them ineligible for the Award.
Each year Right Livelihood awards four Laureates.
Laureates can receive either a Cash or Honorary Award. In both cases, Right Livelihood provides long-term support through our communications, education, advocacy and protection work. In addition, all Laureates become part of the wider Right Livelihood network to strengthen solidarity and connections with peers and partners.
Right Livelihood raises awareness of Laureates’ work across social and traditional media to reach a wide range of audiences around the world. We also ensure the Laureates’ voices are heard in key international fora and work to strengthen their security, enabling them to continue their work safely. Lastly, we develop and disseminate knowledge about Laureates’ solutions, alongside our network of academic partnerships.
Go to our website and follow our social media channels to learn about the Laureates. Every year an announcement of the new Laureates is made at a press conference held in Stockholm in late September or early October and this is streamed live on YouTube.
You can email the Research Team at research@rightlivelihood.org with any questions regarding the nomination and selection process. Nominations sent to this email address will not be considered, all nominations must be made through the Submit.com platform.
