🚀 🇳🇴 🇬🇧 Big sovereign AI news in Europe today. #StargateNorway officially launches, a landmark partnership to deliver a 100,000 NVIDIA GPU gigafactory powered by renewable energy… and built by a U.K. company Nscale. The Stargate Norway project, is a collaboration with Nscale, Aker and OpenAI. For the UK, this is particularly exciting not only for the European Soveriegn AI path it charts, but because in Nscale, we have a U.K. company at the heart of a globally significant sovereign AI infrastructure build out for the first time. In just the past month, we’ve seen the doors open on Germany’s state-of-the-art AI factory, followed closely by the UK’s Isambard-AI supercomputer. Together with this new Norwegian initiative, these milestones point to an unmistakable trend: Europe is scaling up at pace and building the distributed, sustainable infrastructure we need to combine innovation, compute power, and the values that underpin our societies. Stargate Norway is a North Star for the U.K. to aim at, bringing new, renewable-powered infrastructure to the region, supporting sovereign workloads and public–private partnership in research, skills, and innovation. It will serve a broad ecosystem, from enterprise to startups, unlocking regional opportunity and helping make leading-edge AI accessible to more people, in more places, than ever before.   Most importantly, this escalation in Europe’s AI capacity is a great opportunity for us all. Velkommen til Norge! I dag vil jeg gratulerer Aker ASA, OpenAI og Nscale med nyheten om at de sammen skal bygge, drifte og operere en KI-fabrikk. Her skal det produseres kunstig intelligens med 100.000 GPUer fra NVIDIA og med mål om en dobling på sikt. Dette blir Norges største KI-fabrikk og jeg er glad for at Aker med sin solide industrielle kompetanse leder an i prosjektet Stargate Norway. Dette viser at Norge er et attraktivt land å investere i, både for norske og utenlandske investorer og selskaper. Det er viktig for meg og regjeringen. KI-fabrikken vil bringe med seg byggeaktivitet, lokale ringvirkninger og viktige arbeidsplasser til Narvik og Norge. Dette bygger også europeisk konkurransekraft og handler om sikkerhet og beredskap når KI produseres her. Jeg forventer at de fremste aktørene i Norge og Europa innen sine felt bygger så energieffektivt og fremtidsrettet som mulig. Datasenter er moderne industribygging og verdiskaping som Norge trenger. Dette er hovedbudskapet i Datasenterstrategien jeg la frem i juni. Hver og en av oss er innom opptil 40 datasenter hver eneste dag og behovet for datasenter vil øke fremover. Jeg er også glad for at Aker i møte med meg har vært krystallklare på at de ikke skal bruke datasenteret til kryptoutvinning som vi ikke ønsker i Norge. Today I would like to congratulate Aker, Open AI and Nscale on the news that they will jointly build, manage and operate an AI factory in Norway, Narvik. Artificial intelligence will be produced here with 100,000 GPUs from NVIDIA and with the goal of doubling in the long term. This will be Norway's largest AI factory and I am pleased that Aker, with its solid industrial expertise, is leading the way in the Stargate Norway project. This shows that Norway is an attractive country to invest in, both for Norwegian and foreign investors and companies. It is important to me and the Government. The AI factory will bring construction activity, local ripple effects and important jobs to Narvik and Norway. This also builds European competitiveness and is about safety and preparedness when AI is produced here. I expect the leading players in Norway and Europe in their fields to build as energy-efficiently and forward-looking as possible. Data centers are modern industrial construction and value creation that Norway needs. This is the main message of the Data Center Strategy that I presented in June. Each of us visits up to 40 data centers every single day and the need for data centers will increase in the future. I am also glad that Aker, in a meeting with me, has been crystal clear that they will not use the data center for crypto mining, which we do not want in Norway. This morning, Aker executives had the privilege of meeting with India’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, alongside several prominent leaders from the country’s energy sector. 🦖 When the Past Meets the Future – Meet Aker-Rex! Today, we unveiled a rather unexpected new colleague at Aker Tech House: a full-scale T-rex replica named Aker-Rex. Why a dinosaur? Because nothing says “cutting-edge technology” like a 66-million-year-old predator 🧠💡 The idea was sparked by a conversation with Kjell Inge Røkke, who reminded us that the last great extinction wiped out the dinosaurs – not because they weren’t strong, but because they couldn’t adapt. Aker-Rex now stands as a daily reminder of what happens when we stop evolving: we become fossils. This spectacular cast of the “Tufts-Love rex” – originally discovered in Montana – was secured with help from Norway’s leading paleontologist, Jørn Harald Hurum. It’s nearly identical to the one at the Natural History Museum in Oslo. At Aker, we’re proud of our long history, but we’re even more focused on the future. Aker-Rex is a symbol of our commitment to continuous learning, bold thinking, and transformation. This morning, Aker presented its 4th quarter and preliminary annual results for 2024 with the following key takeaways: ✅The Net Asset Value of Aker and the holding companies reached NOK 58.2 billion, up from 57 billion the previous quarter ✅2024 was an active year, characterized by both strong project execution and significant transactions ✅The portfolio companies distributed more than NOK 32 billion in dividends to its respective shareholders, including upwards of NOK 11 billion combined upstream cash to Aker ✅The Aker Board announced a cash dividend of NOK 26.50 per share for the fiscal year 2024. In line with recent practice, a second tranche will be considered by the Board in the second half of this year.
