Orlando leaves Libya hoping for peace, unity and a better future
The Head of the European Union Delegation to Libya, Nicola Orlando, has expressed hope that the aspirations of Libyans and their partners for peace, unity and a better future for the country will soon be realized.
Orlando made the remarks in a post on X on Monday as his tenure as the European Union Ambassador to Libya draws to a close.
He said he was leaving Libya deeply grateful for the generosity and warm hospitality he had received from the Libyan people, while expressing admiration for their resilience in the face of adversity.
Eni denies requesting increase in Libyan gas supplies to Italy
Italian energy company Eni has denied reports that it requested a 20% increase in natural gas supplies from Libya to Italy, saying the alleged letter on which the reports were based is a falsified document.
In a statement sent to The Libya Observer on Monday, Eni said it had not submitted any request to Mellitah Oil & Gas Company or any other Libyan entity to increase the volumes of gas supplied to Italy.
The company said the letter circulated on social media and cited in reports about the alleged request was not authentic and had not been issued by Eni.
Libya, Egypt and Albania discuss sports cooperation
Libya’s Minister of Sports, Fouad Barghash, discussed ways to strengthen sports cooperation and expand joint activities between Libya, Egypt and Albania with his Egyptian counterpart, Nabil Gohar, and Albanian counterpart, Blendi Gonxhe.
The discussions took place during two bilateral meetings held in the Italian city of Taranto on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games. Barghash attended the ceremony at the invitation of Italian Sports Minister Andrea Abodi.
Indonesians in Libya mark Prophet Muhammad’s birthday with call for unity
The Indonesian community in Libya have marked the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad at a ceremony hosted by the Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli.
The event, held on Friday, 28 August, was organised by the Libyan branch of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) with support from the embassy.
It was held under the theme, “Emulating the Morals of the Prophet Muhammad, Strengthening Brotherhood, Strengthening Nationalism Abroad”, with organisers saying the event aimed to strengthen ties among Indonesians living in Libya and promote Islamic values among younger generations.
Dbeibah calls for faster digital transformation in higher education
Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibah has called for faster digital transformation across higher education institutions and the completion of stalled infrastructure projects.
Speaking at an extraordinary meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities on Monday, Dbeibah said universities should play a greater role in researching national issues and supporting government decision-making.
