The FAO Director-General, QU Dongyu, had a Papal Audience with His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican City today. The Director-General conveyed his deep appreciation to His Holiness for the opportunity to meet, as well as for the many years of close cooperation between FAO and the Holy See. The Director-General also recalled the excellent relations with the previous Holy Father, Pope Francis, and looked forward to further strengthening support and collaboration, noting the important role that the Holy See played in addressing global challenges, including food security. 🌿 In the mountains of Tajikistan, traditional healing is more than a practice—it’s a legacy. Mahmadali, a healer from the village of Gulrez, uses herbs and plants from the surrounding hills to prepare natural remedies, just like his father before him. Passed down through generations, this knowledge is rooted in Tajikistan’s rich agrobiodiversity. But climate change, overharvesting, and cultural shifts are putting both plants and wisdom at risk. With support from FAO and the Global Environment Facility, Mahmadali received training and tools to improve his methods—making his work more efficient while preserving centuries-old practices.
