Problem

In a poll that allows multiple answers, each option has a checkmark that shows whether it is selected. TalkBack reads the option the same way whether it is selected or not, so this kind of poll cannot be used. Also:

  • Activating any option sent a vote immediately, so in a multiple-answer poll a single answer was sent instead of being ticked, and in an already voted poll the option was voted again instead of opening its menu.
  • For voted options, only the percentage was read, not the vote count.
  • The menu that opens on long press of an option (who added it, quote, remove) was not reachable.

Fix

In ChatMessageCell:

  • Options that can be ticked are reported as checkboxes with their checked state.
  • Activating an option does what tapping it does (tick, vote, or open its menu).
  • The vote count is read next to the percentage.
  • The long press menu is available as an accessibility action.

Testing

With TalkBack on, send a poll that allows multiple answers and swipe onto an option.

Before: it read the same whether ticked or not, and double tap sent a vote. After: it reads as a checkbox with its state, double tap ticks it, and the vote is sent with the button below.

An answer of a poll that takes more than one is drawn with a tick beside
it, and the tick is what says whether it is chosen. Nothing of it reached
a screen reader: the option read the same whether it was ticked or not,
which leaves a poll of that kind unusable. Beside the bar of an answer
that has been voted on there is a count as well as a share, and only the
share was said.

Give an option that can be ticked the kind of a check box and its state,
so the tick is spoken as state in the words of the screen reader, and put
the count beside the share.

A press on an option went straight to sending a vote whatever the option
was, so an answer of a poll that takes more than one was sent on its own
instead of being ticked, and an answer of a poll already voted in was
voted for again instead of opening the menu it has. Do what a press on
the option itself does.

Hold a press on an option and a menu opens with who added it, quoting it
and removing it in it. Nothing offered that to a screen reader either.
