Contentious topic question
[edit]Just looking at Wikipedia:Contentious topics/Biographies of Living Persons and noting how well the XC restriction has calmed things down at Zak Smith, and wondering if it might help somewhere else right now. Obviously that restriction was done as a result of an arbitration committee motion, but is that something that could be done in relation to another living person in need of a similar resriction? It's probably a bit trivial at present for an AC motion, so I'm thinking a request at WP:AE or WP:AN or I don't know if it's something an uninvolved admin can do? - Hello FDW777, nothing prevents administrators from simply applying extended-confirmed protection with any duration to a biography of a living person, pointing to the already-existing contentious topic designation. I sometimes do so for a year. Is there a specific biography you're looking at? ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:46, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- Well it's not really a biography at present, but I'll wager the people who deal with drafts are sick of it. See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive381#Offwiki push to promote a streamer for the background and a list of some of the drafts involved. Even in the last day there's been another disruptive resubmission rejected at Draft:Joe Bartolozzi, so the same editor just went to the pre-existing Draft:Joe Bart, and resubmitted the same rejected draft at a different location. Plus an attempt earlier today at Bartolozzi (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), where the talk page is already protected to deal with all this. And then there's attempts to add him to the lead of other articles completely. So it's something possibly in need of a solution? FDW777 (talk) 22:54, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- FDW777, the solution is rejecting the drafts, extended-confirmed protecting these indeed-already-biographies independently of their namespace and blocking accounts that persist in promoting the person. Not creating a new contentious topic. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:08, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- Works perfectly for me, just wasn't sure how simple it would be to just create something similar to the Zak Smith one for Joe Bartolozzi. Thanks for the help. FDW777 (talk) 23:18, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- No worries! Please let me know if this continues, perhaps with a link to this section here from the archives if it's been some time. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:22, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks. Luckily there's a handy way to check for activity in draft space, which mitigates the multiple draft articles currently there. FDW777 (talk) 23:30, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- All redirected now. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:42, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- Please can you just block Redcan76 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · nuke contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) for this Joe Bartolozzi spamming? Can't even be bothered with escalating warnings. FDW777 (talk) 16:55, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
- Gone. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:31, 30 June 2026 (UTC)

Thanks for catching that
[edit]I was aware of that, but you do have a point; assigned seems more proper. – Demetrios1993 (talk) 14:34, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Demetrios1993, yeah, I figured there's no way that's new information and removed it quickly afterwards. "Created" would also do, I think. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 20:32, 30 June 2026 (UTC)
