Proposed WikiProject - Bilateral relations

[edit]

There is now a upstart WikiProject to establish a concensus about WP's International bilateral relations articles, including "X-Y (country) relations" articles, at Wikipedia:Centralized discussion/Bilateral international relations. Interested parties should add their names at Wikipedia:WikiProject International relations/Bilateral relations task force if they wish to play a part in the discussions or have an Interest in this going forward. Thank you for your attention. CaribDigita (talk) 00:03, 30 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Formosa

[edit]

The island of Formosa is not on the map, even if Belgium does not have diplomatic relations with Taiwan, the island of Formosa should atleast be presented. 2A02:1811:B63B:900:94F5:D160:DF76:6F00 (talk) 18:30, 9 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Clarification on "diplomatic relations"

[edit]

What exactly constitutes "diplomatic relations"? Is it solely an envoy of ambassadorial rank? I ask because while this article says Belgium opened diplomatic relations with Australia in 1947, the sources cited give no indication that the ambassador appointed that year was the first Belgian envoy to Australia. Other sources state the existence of Belgian consulates at Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as far back as the 1850s and 1860s. I haven't looked into it deeply, but I am wondering. -- Andreas Philopater (talk) 09:14, 9 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

He was the first ambassador (minister). Diplomatic relations begin when either the first diplomatic envoy (ambassador or charge d'affaires) presents their credentials or if the two countries sign a joint communique. Consulates do not pertain to diplomatic relations but to consular relations. Semsûrî (talk) 09:25, 9 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
