    Thursday, Oct. 1 Signs of the times My blood pressure kept rising as we were driving home from the High River Balloon Festival. Why? Because of the number of separatist flags along the highway. They are all planted on beautiful acreages with gorgeous homes, big motorhomes sitting in the yard and $100,000 trucks in the driveway. I couldn’t help but think, “Gee, Canada has sure treated these people badly; I think I want to separate from this country.”

  6. Letters to the editor: Don't forget to empty the garbage

    Congratulations to the City of Calgary crews that work on so many beautiful gardens in our city. The blooms at Reader Rock Garden and the Senator Patrick Burns Memorial Gardens have been a joy to see. It’s also nice to see how the City has stepped up its game in recent years by adding more floral points of interest along walking paths such as those on Prince’s Island Park and along the Bow River. Now, my suggestion would be that garbage cans are emptied in Prince’s Island Park more often, so they don’t detract from the beauty of the place.

  1. Opinion: Electoral changes need to prevent minority from controlling government

    One of the biggest challenges affecting democracy in Alberta is that a fraction of Albertans is influencing governance within the province. There must be safeguards to ensure politicians are accountable to all Albertans rather than only their core voter base, which can unduly influence the direction of Alberta through the threat of removal via leadership reviews.
