Methane ignites fire at drinking water pump in Nigeria

Bille, a town of 30,000 people in Rivers State, Nigeria, sits next to abandoned oil and gas infrastructure. Since October 2025, methane has been bubbling up in rivers, swamps and drinking wells near the town. It is suspected that the oil and gas wells are the cause of these leaks. School children have had to relocate and members of Bille’s community are falling sick due to this. One resident told Amnesty International that the community is “no longer safe.”

Palantir granted unlimited access to healthcare data

US software company Palantir and other contractors were granted unlimited access to identifiable NHS England patient information.
The £330 million contract that Palantir signed with the NHS in 2023 to provide a new data platform for the healthcare system now seriously threatens patient privacy rights through the NHS’ federated data platform (FDP).

Israel continues to destroy civilian infrastructure as shown in this video, which captures the Israeli army destroying solar panels in southern Lebanon.
Amnesty International has previously documented extensive destruction by the Israeli military along Lebanon’s border before and after the November 2024 ceasefire. We called for reparations and the investigation into this for war crimes. So far, neither has appeared.

Justice served for protestor blinded in demonstration

For the first time in Colombian history, a police officer has been prosecuted for blinding a protester. In 2021 Leidy Cadena lost an eye when police officer Danilo José Núñez Zabaleta shot her at close range with a rubber bullet while protesting against controversial tax reforms. He has now been sentenced to seven years in prison and disqualified for holding public office for seven years.

Doctor in Gaza reveals night of horror when IDF resumed strikes

Israel launched an assault on Gaza on Tuesday March 18, one a week ago, shattering the fragile ceasefire agreement it had with Hamas. The attack has killed more than 700 people, more than 40% of whom were children, according to figures from Gaza’s Ministry of Health released on Sunday. Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu called the military’s strikes a “return to battle forcefully,” arguing that “heavy fighting against Hamas” is necessary to get the remaining hostages released. CNN received voice notes from Dr Tanya Haj-Hassan, a volunteer American paediatric intensive care doctor from UK-based NGO Medical Aid for Palestinians, describing her experience.

President Donald Trump’s 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico came into effect Tuesday. The president also doubled the tariff on all Chinese imports to 20% from 10%. Canada and China immediately retaliated tariffs on American goods. Despite this, Canada and Mexico stand to lose far more because they depend so heavily on America for trade, and the US is considered their largest export market. A man was arrested by the Cartagena Metropolitan Police while trying to board a flight from Cartagena, Colombia, to Amsterdam, after officers found cocaine under his toupee. The drugs are estimated to be worth more than 40 million Colombian pesos, which is about $10,000.

The IDF has destroyed several homes in the West Bank’s Tulkarem refugee camp. This destruction follows the IDF’s “Iron Wall” operation, which began in Jenin refugee camp in January to “dismantle the terror infrastructure built in Palestinian refugee camps” according to the IDF. The number of displaced Palestinians due to ongoing Israeli operations has reached around 40,000 residents, according to the United Nations.

Video obtained by CNN shows masked Israeli settlers attacking Palestinian farmers and foreign activists accompanying them through the town of Qusra in the West Bank. In a statement to CNN, the Israel Defense Forces acknowledged the attack, stating that soldiers were sent to the scene and fired shots, causing the attackers to flee. Activists said that the soldiers also pointed weapons at a Palestinian man accompanying the volunteers and fired shots in his direction. Three international activists and one Palestinian farmer were taken to hospital with injuries following the settler attack.
