It took four years for Euphoria to return to our screens after its season 2 finale; are fans due for another long wait after season 3? Or maybe the better question is: Is another season coming at all?
The HBO series starring Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and more changed gears with its latest season, which took a time jump and launched their characters—whom we first met as high school students—into young adulthood as they navigate drug dealers, sex work, marriage, faith, and even Hollywood. The new direction understandably left audiences questioning if season 3 would be Euphoria’s last. There’s also the fact that the cast has risen to superstardom since the show first premiered, which would make scheduling future seasons increasingly difficult. And after a tragic season 3 finale, the cast would be drastically different without not one but two key players in the mix. But still, it’s not over until HBO (officially) says it’s over. Here’s what we know about the possibility of another Euphoria season.
Has HBO renewed Euphoria for season 4?
No. In fact, show creator Sam Levinson has confirmed that Euphoria would end with season 3. “In terms of the story that we set out to tell, which is a story about addiction and its consequences, this feels like the end to me,” he said on an episode of The New York Times podcast Popcast. The episode was published on June 1, hours after the season 3 finale aired on HBO.
Before the podcast appearance, the future of Euphoria was unclear. HBO did not call the season 3 finale the series finale, but in an interview published on May 31, The Hollywood Reporter referred to this as the “third and final season of Euphoria.” When the episode finally aired, the way things turned out for Rue (Zendaya), Ali (Colman Domingo), Maddy (Alexa Demie), Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), and Lexi (Maude Apatow) seemed to make up the series’s conclusion.
What has Sam Levinson said about Euphoria ending?
In April 2026, ahead of the season 3 premiere, the Euphoria creator told Variety he had “no plans” for a season 4 at the time. He said he writes “every season like it’s the last season” and was focused on giving the current installment his all.
“I want to finish this as strong as I can. I’m cutting [episodes] 7 and 8 still,” he said at the April 7 L.A. premiere. “I’m putting some finishing touches. I just want to deliver a fucking slam dunk season.”
Speaking to THR about cast member Alexa Demie, Levinson said he hopes that fans realize her character, Maddy Perez, “is finally free” by the end of the season 3 finale. That definitiveness hinted that this is the end of the series as a whole.
What has Zendaya said?
The actress behind Rue hinted that season 3 would mark the end of Euphoria in an April interview with Drew Barrymore. When asked whether this would be the final season, Zendaya said, “I think so, yeah.” She added, according to Variety, “That closure is coming.” HBO did not address her comments, though.
How does the rest of the cast feel?
Colman Domingo didn’t confirm whether season 3 was Euphoria’s last, but he told The Hollywood Reporter, “[Sam Levinson] would always tell us, let’s treat each season as if it’s the last one. So he’s written every season as if it would be the last one, so you give your all. So, if it’s the end, I know that I gave it my all.”
