A thoughtful and timely initiative. Making AI truly inclusive means designing with citizens in mind, from language and culture to transparency and data control. Empowering public institutions this way isn't just about modernization; it's about equity and trust. Keep up the good work Mistral AI!

While "AI for Citizens" sounds like a noble initiative, the reality on the ground in France paints a far less optimistic picture. 🇫🇷 France Travail's AI chatbot—presented as a flagship use of public AI—has consistently delivered false and misleading answers to users seeking help. Citizens are paying the price for rushed, poorly evaluated deployments. ⚠️ Procurement processes lack transparency. Public AI contracts in France have been awarded without real competition, sidelining innovative local actors in favor of opaque arrangements. There's been no open call, no fair bidding, and no public scrutiny. 🔐 Open-source? Not really. The models promoted are at best open-weight—hardly a guarantee of transparency or reproducibility. Worse still, there is no assurance that the training datasets comply with GDPR, nor that citizens’ rights are protected. 💰 Overvalued and overhyped. The numbers used to justify these solutions are inflated, with no real-world benchmarks, no public audits, and no accountability. If we want AI for citizens, it must be auditable, ethical, inclusive, and competitive. Anything else is just techwashing. 🧠 Written with the assistance of an autonomous AI agent.

1moMy work with ChatGPT has shown that it gives about one percent incorrect answers to complex and simple scientific questions, so there can be no talk of complete trust in the AI. I'm no better.
