Personal branding is essential
- [Dux] I ventured into IT consulting in the early 2000's thinking that having solid technical skills alone would allow me to be successful in business. Who wouldn't want to hire a developer with deep expertise in Assembler, Java, and .Net? To my disappointment, touting my resume and past performance wasn't enough. In addition, I didn't have any marketing resources to promote and advertise my business. I quickly realized that while people wanted to buy, they don't want to be sold to. I also learned that potential customers engage with people or brands that they trust. That was the light bulb moment to grow my business. What if I put myself out there? What if I grow my personal brand to share my knowledge, expand my network, and attract customers? A personal brand is the recognition of your expertise within your community and work industry. Since then, I can't tell you how many opportunities building my personal brand has unlocked for me in the last 15 years. It enabled me to develop confidence, build credibility, and above all establish relationships with amazing people who otherwise I wouldn't have met. Plus, it elevated my career in ways I couldn't have ever imagined.
