Laura N Montoya, CSM reposted thisLaura N Montoya, CSM reposted this📣You could receive $𝟮𝟱𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼, even if you do not have the company figured out yet. The Bridge by Entrepreneurs First is accepting applications for its October 2026 cohort. This is built for non-US founders at Stage 0. That means you can apply if you are: → pre-idea → pre-team → still looking for a co-founder → only beginning to test what you want to build The program brings 40 founders to San Francisco for an 8-week residency focused on finding the right problem, testing ideas, meeting potential co-founders, and beginning to build. And much of the usual financial friction is removed. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄: → 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: San Francisco → 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 8-week residency → 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁: Housing, workspace, food and the program are covered → 𝗖𝗼𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁: 40 founders → 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: The strongest teams can receive $250,000 in pre-seed investment → 𝗘𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Non-US founders 🗓️ 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲: August 30, 2026 One important distinction: The $250,000 is not automatically awarded when you enter the residency. Founders spend the first 8 weeks building, testing, and forming teams. The strongest teams then pitch Entrepreneurs First’s investment committee for funding and continue building in San Francisco. Entrepreneurs First has backed companies that later raised from firms including Sequoia, Founders Fund, Benchmark, and Index. For someone who knows they want to build an ambitious company but has been waiting for the perfect idea or co-founder, this is the unusual part: The Bridge is designed for you to figure those things out inside the program. 🔂 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗽. Laura N Montoya, CSM reposted thisLaura N Montoya, CSM reposted thisSo proud of my friend, Laura N Montoya, CSM founder on of Accel Impact Holdings, Accel.AI and Latinx in AI (LXAI). This was such a great first event, Silicon & Signals Architecting Next-Gen AI Systems Beyond the chip hosted at Canopy Cowork Space! I was happy to be reconnect with the amazing Chuck Ng co-founder of Foundation for Science and AI Research. I enjoyed talks by Jin Kim (XCENA, formerly SVP at Samsung) who was very thoughtful talking about our evolution since RAG and evolving architectures optimizing the GPU, Pooya Jannaty (Nvidia COSMOS) which got my juices flowing on all things world building, the Omniverse, spatial computing, robotics, and AR (Augmented Reality), SambaNova, Vamsidhar Kamanuru who reframed serving work, not tokens. My favorite slide from Vamsi showed discovery agents - which is all about long-term horizon bets on areas like the weather (useful for climate change) and everything health tech (all about AI drug discovery which I find the most promising). It's been exciting to see SambaNova grow over the last few years too. And the famous Saurabh Shrivastava also called in via Zoom dropping some knowledge. It was also so nice connecting with like minded folks, venture studio builders, investors all chopping it up about sportstech, AI governance, compliance, crypto/blockchain /web3 fiends like me speaking about transparency and distributed ledger technology which was a wonderful surprise too, Jorden Woods, Jaymes Hines. #AI #LatinxinAI #FilipinxAmericaninSTEAM #FilipinxAmericansinAI

Laura N Montoya, CSM reposted thisLaura N Montoya, CSM reposted thisWe are thrilled to welcome Saurabh Shrivastava, Global Head of Solutions Architecture for Enterprise Core Modernization at AWS, as a featured speaker at Silicon & Signals: Architecting Next-Gen AI Systems Beyond the Chip this Wednesday, August 26 in Menlo Park. As enterprise AI scales, relying solely on brute-force token consumption and proprietary black-box APIs creates unsustainable cost structures and architectural bottlenecks. Unlocking true efficiency requires flexible, open-model hosting and intelligent infrastructure orchestration at enterprise scale. At the event, Saurabh will present his talk: "Overcoming Tokemaxxing with Open Model Hosting" He will dive into how enterprise architecture leaders can move beyond brute-force token throughput, leveraging open-source foundation models and optimized hosting patterns to achieve cost-effective, high-performance AI deployment. Laura N Montoya, CSM reposted thisLaura N Montoya, CSM reposted thisWe applied to 4 accelerators: Y Combinator, 500 Global, Plug and Play, and Berkeley SkyDeck. Before that I went through 30+ programs worldwide. For roughly the same 12 weeks, you can pay 0% equity or 12%. Almost nobody compares them properly. Here are the 10 worth a founder's time. 1. Y Combinator (SF Bay Area) $125K for 7%, plus $375K on an uncapped MFN SAFE. No fees. 3 months. Outcome: Demo Day in front of the most active seed investors alive. The brand reprices your round. 2. a16z Speedrun (San Francisco) $500K for 10%, plus $500K in your next round within 18 months. $8M+ in credits, no board seat. 12 weeks, 60-70 teams, twice a year. Outcome: a16z as your first investor. 3. HF0 (San Francisco) Reported at $1M for 5%. 12 weeks, live-in. Outcome: ~10 teams per cohort, mostly repeat founders. Best terms on this list if you get in. 4. South Park Commons (SF, NYC, Bangalore) $400K for 7% now, plus $600K guaranteed at your next round. 8-week bootcamp, then open-ended residency. Outcome: built for the -1 to 0 stage, before you know what you're building. 5. Sequoia Arc (Americas and Europe) A 4-day intensive, ~10 companies. Terms are company-specific and not published. Outcome: Sequoia partners engaged pre-seed. Shortest program here by a wide margin. 6. Techstars (30+ cities worldwide) $220K: $20K for 5% common, plus $200K uncapped MFN SAFE. No fee. 3 months. APAC programs run $100K instead. Outcome: mentor-driven, but quality varies enormously by city. Pick the MD, not the logo. 7. 500 Global (Global) $150K for ~6% (negotiable). 4 months. Outcome: the most distribution-focused curriculum of the large programs. 2,500+ companies backed. 8. Entrepreneur First (London, San Francisco, Bangalore) Equity-free grant while you're still ideating, then up to $250K once you incorporate. Equity not published. Outcome: they back you before you have a co-founder or an idea. Nobody else does this at scale. 9. Berkeley SkyDeck (Berkeley, plus a Milan track) $200K for 7.5%. 6 months. 20-25 teams per batch. Outcome: strong Demo Day plus Berkeley's talent pipeline. Catch: one founder must be UC-affiliated or an international founder. 10. Plug and Play (Global) The program is equity-free. Investment is separate and optional. Outcome: Fortune 500 pilots, not investor intros. 80+ vertical programs a year. Also strong: Antler (30 cities, terms vary), EWOR (up to €500K, Europe), Alchemist (enterprise). Equity turns out to be the wrong thing to optimize. Plug and Play takes 0% and gets you corporate pilots. YC takes 7% and gets you a seed round at several times the price you'd raise alone. Both are right, for different companies. We went with YC, 500 Global, Plug and Play and Berkeley SkyDeck. Which ones would you have applied to in our position? Genuinely asking.

I was lucky enough to be selected for a question and jumped at the opportunity to ask if I could take his photo on my SX-70. He enthusiastically agreed, patiently letting me take 2 long exposures. I kept one and got to give him the other back stage, where I took a better lit but entirely out of focus portrait. Of all the great things you can say about Tim, kind and respectful do not make it high enough on the list. In an era of toxic CEOs, Tim stands out as polite and gracious.

Laura N Montoya, CSM reacted on thisLaura N Montoya, CSM reacted on thisCapital F is spotlighting women's health startups. The firm has closed its $17 million debut fund to back female-founded and women-focused early-stage startups. Founded by former Credo Beauty CEO Dawn Dobras and longtime investor and operator Margaret Coblentz, Capital F was launched to invest in the $15 trillion female economy. Writing checks from $250,000 to $1 million, the firm is focused on three key areas: women’s health and wellness, AI and technology, and digital commerce. “Women influence trillions in economic activity, yet too many of the markets that matter most to them remain underbuilt and underfunded,” said Dobras. “We launched Capital F to back exceptional founders solving real problems in large markets, and to bring operator experience to the earliest stages where it matters most.” The firm has already invested in 13 companies, including reproductive health platform Xella Health, reproductive telemedicine platform Hey Jane, and cycle- and hormone-tracker Stardust. Capital F plans to deploy the remainder of its fund by the end of 2027. Read the full story → https://lnkd.in/gdu8bK7C

NYU Langone Health’s informatics leaders recently predicted fully autonomous clinical AI within 5 years with no physician sign-off. Algorithms titrating blood pressure meds, retinopathy screening running end-to-end without a clinician in sight. Their reasoning is hard to argue with as we're facing a shortage of 85,000+ physicians by 2036 and the current care model doesn't have an answer for that, and it seems clear that AI will be playing more of role in providing care going forward. But the next question is more difficult to answer: Are we automating the right things, for the right reasons? Utah is already stress-testing this with Doctronic by automating routine prescription renewals for chronic condition patients. I wrote about this a month ago - renewals are repetitive, pulling clinicians away from patients who need actual judgment and create gaps in care when they fall through the cracks. If that pilot scales, it frees up real capacity. What makes it work is that prescription renewals are largely protocol-driven. The decision tree is narrow, the inputs are structured, and removing friction there doesn't mean removing judgment from care. Clay Christensen would have called these protocol-driven care pathways 'precision medicine,' having advanced originally from the primordial soup of 'intuitive medicine,' to the mid-stage 'empirical medicine,' to finally precision status. We're seeing the same logic play out across our portfolio companies. Janie automates the administrative workflows that quietly drain clinical capacity, things like billing, prior auth, and care coordination, giving practices back time that should never have been spent on paperwork. FlyteHealth takes a similar approach on the clinical side, combining a multidisciplinary care team with technology to manage obesity, hypertension, and diabetes at scale. The care team stays central and the automation handles everything that doesn't require them. That's the model I find most compelling. Where I get more cautious is with patients who have multiple conditions, polypharmacy risk, or subtle behavioral changes that don’t show up in structured data. A system that's right 95% of the time still needs airtight guardrails for the other 5%, and building those guardrails well requires people who understand what failure looks like. Here's the thing: AI IS NOT GENERALLY INTELLIGENT, AND WE CAN RELY ON IT TO FAIL AT 'LAST MILE' JUDGMENT WORK THAT REQUIRES GENERAL INTELLIGENCE. The goal here shouldn't be to remove humans from care. It should be to stop wasting clinical talent on work that doesn't require it. As routine tasks get automated, clinicians should have more room for nuanced conversation, the shared decision, the patient who needs persuasion as much as a prescription. Utah and NYU deserve real credit for running these experiments in the open.

I published a new piece with Silicon Foundry on a pattern that keeps repeating in AI infrastructure. Market leaders rarely miss these shifts because they’re asleep at the wheel. They miss them because they’re doing what leaders are trained to do. They run the playbook that made them leaders. They optimize the system they already have. And they trust the signals that have always correlated with strength. The problem is that AI infrastructure is not just more of the old stack. When architectures move, the basis of competition moves with them. Categories get redefined quietly, then all at once. By the time the change shows up cleanly in the numbers, the advantage has already migrated to a different layer of the value chain. In the article, I walk through why this happens and what to do about it. The ability to notice when the stack is reorganizing, before your planning process forces the answer back into last year’s categories. If you’re operating in semis, networking, or data center infrastructure, I’d be interested in how you’re watching for these shifts in your own system. https://lnkd.in/gimKJPUu

You can have groundbreaking science, elegant engineering, and even early customer interest. But without this one thing, you don't have an investable business. After two decades running IP strategy projects and now leading UC Berkeley's Deep Tech Innovation Lab while building the Berkeley Gateway Accelerator, I've watched countless brilliant technologies die in the valley between breakthrough and business. The problem isn't what most technical founders think it is. It's not about having better tech. It's not about getting more funding. It's not even about finding product-market fit. The fatal flaw shows up much earlier—and it's almost always the same mistake. In my latest piece, I answer questions from a Taiwanese entrepreneur about what really separates deep tech ventures that scale from those that stall. Including one provocative suggestion for Asian ecosystems that has nothing to do with technology. This week, Anthropic launched Claude for Life Sciences, its first real push to make AI part of how science gets done. Why this matters 👇 - Scientists spend hours each week buried in docs and data. Claude aims to give them that time back by summarizing literature, drafting protocols, and analyzing data. And with prebuilt connectors to Benchling, BioRender, and PubMed, it fits well into existing workflows. - Some researchers have been eager to use AI but hesitant to apply it without clear benchmarks. Claude’s most capable model, Sonnet 4.5, shows strong performance in lab protocol and bioinformatics tasks, making AI adoption in the field more credible and comfortable. - Anthropic also introduced Agent Skills, instructions that dictate how Claude tackles specific tasks. The first skill they’ve built performs single-cell RNA sequencing quality control using scverse best practices, a sign they’re prioritizing technical rigor. It's a strong step forward, but the rollout points to where pharma still is on the AI adoption curve. Instead of the self serve model offered to consumers, Anthropic is partnering with consulting firms like Deloitte, Accenture and KPMG to bring Claude to enterprise pharma. I can't help but wonder, if the goal is to meet scientists where they are, why would it take a consulting team to get started? 🤔 WDYT? Jazzed for this keynote by Jeff Erhardt at our 12th annual LDV Capital Vision Summit: The Materials Innovation Gap: Why AI Predictions Aren't Enough — And What It Will Take to Transform a $6 Trillion Industry RSVP: https://lnkd.in/eeUHN_m AI is transforming industry after industry, and generating enormous excitement in the world of materials science. Machine learning models can now predict millions of new material candidates with unprecedented speed and accuracy. At the same time, programmable material classes, including those recognized by the 2025 The Nobel Prize in Chemistry, could unlock breakthroughs in some of the most pressing challenges facing civilization, from environmental remediation to the energy transition. But their impact is constrained by something prediction alone cannot resolve: new materials must be physically produced, scaled, integrated, and qualified within the larger systems into which they are deployed, a journey that remains extraordinarily long, expensive, and unpredictable. Jeff will argue that closing this materials innovation gap requires treating AI and physical experimentation as equal partners, and building a new model of collaborative development that connects materials innovators and industrial partners far earlier in the discovery process.
