Linda Burrow shared thisWhat are the real costs of litigation? And how should parties decide when to mediate? The answer, of course, is it depends. Some thoughts at the link below.Linda Burrow shared this“Many cases can—and should—be resolved early, particularly where the defendant recognizes its potential for liability, the plaintiff is (relatively) reasonable in its demand, both sides are emotionally prepared for settlement discussions and neither party has a significant incentive to pursue litigation.” JAMS neutral Linda Burrow, Esq. discusses factors that in-house counsel should consider when developing a litigation strategy for business disputes. Linda Burrow reposted thisLinda Burrow reposted thisNetflix laid off a bunch of people yesterday. A lot of them, were people I know, and many more I don't. In moments like these I feel compelled to act. Here's what I can offer: For the last four years I've coached executives through the job search, and leaving a company like Netflix creates a very specific kind of search and the nuances are many when the broader context is what it is. But there is a path forward. On Monday, October 19 at 4:00 PM PT, I'm hosting a free LinkedIn Live with a few former colleagues who've navigated this market themselves. We'll talk about the emotions and the tactics. We need to talk about both, because it is an important part of the path forward, and I want to share what I can to help you all along the way. If you need this, join us. It will focus on some of the specific nuances of a post Netflix job search so I strongly encourage this as a space for those impacted by the Netflix layoff. No pitch. No cost. No hidden agenda. Just as session by people who've been where you are for people who are going through it! Linda Burrow reposted thisLinda Burrow reposted thisIn addition to contested judicial positions, your ballot includes retention elections for appellate and Supreme Court jurists. Your choices are "yes" or "no." As the Los Angeles County Bar Association explains (https://lnkd.in/gH3JFzjD), California Supreme Court and Court of Appeal justices serve 12-year terms, confirmed after thorough vetting by the non-partisan Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation (JNE). Instead of contested elections, appellate justices periodically face a vote on whether they will continue to serve. Generally, a "yes” vote is appropriate unless a particular justice has demonstrated unfitness to continue serving. As the County Bar reports, the justices up for retention in this election all have a demonstrated record of fitness and competence for their positions and none have had disciplinary issues with the Commission on Judicial Performance. #LACBA #RetentionElections #Vote Paul Kiesel Peter Morrison Theresa LeetsCalifornia Supreme Court and Court of Appeal Justices Retention ElectionCalifornia Supreme Court and Court of Appeal Justices Retention Election

When you see judicial candidates on the ballot, it can be hard to know how to vote—or even whether to vote. I can confirm how important it is to have qualified judges, as can all of the clients I have represented and litigants with whom I mediate. For this election, there are four runoff elections in Los Angeles County for contested seats. Linda Burrow reposted thisLinda Burrow reposted thisI will be forever grateful to Equal Justice Works and my fellowship sponsor, Latham & Watkins, for affording me the opportunity to serve as a fellow. In 2004 I launched a program through my fellowship at the Survivor Justice Center (then "The Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice") providing family and immigration law services to pregnant and parenting teens. It was called "Teen LA," which stood for "Teen Legal Advocacy." One of my first clients was a mother of 14 y.o. whose paternal grandmother had falsely claimed had been abandoned by my client. The truth was far from that. My client had asked paternal grandmother to watch the children while she attended school because she was determined to graduate high school. Clients like her have fueled my efforts to ensure meaningful access to justice to low-income communities and individuals. Today, I have the privilege of working alongside the incredible advocates at Bet Tzedek Legal Services to undertake this work on a much bigger scale than I did as a fellow, but the core of my passion remains the same. Thank you, Equal Justice Works, for all you to on behalf of fellows and the communities they serve. It's an incredible honor to be among your 40x40 Alumni Changemakers.

Linda Burrow liked thisLinda Burrow liked thisIt was great this week to be with friends and alumni from UGA School of Law's advocacy program. Thanks to the support of Dean Usha Rodrigues and the leadership of Kellie Casey Monk, the advocacy program is a robust and defining part of the experience at UGA Law. I was reminded at the gathering of all the things I still do all these years later that I learned from Kellie. Kellie let each of us have our own style but it had to fit within her framework. Because she knew what works. All the details that add up. And that were non-negotiable with Kellie. Attire, organization, hand placement, and so much else. Above all preparation. Over the course of decades and many hundreds of students, it is not an exaggeration that Kellie helped shape trial and appellate practice in Georgia. If you know what to look for, you can see Kellie's fingerprints in lawyers' presentations in courtrooms across the state. Kellie taught my colleague Jennifer Cotton long after me, but Jennifer learned the same framework - a legacy that spans generations. Thank you, Kellie. And thanks to my partners at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP for hosting the event and being committed to our community. Kilpatrick's hospitality manager Marvin L Maye and his team always do an amazing job welcoming guests to the firm. Finally, as Georgia-Florida weekend approaches, Go Dawgs!

Linda Burrow reacted on thisLinda Burrow reacted on thisWe are so proud to be recognized as one of the "Top Boutiques" in California by the Daily Journal Corporation for 2026. In a special issue, the Daily Journal profiled ADK’s recent successes in complex civil, criminal, and regulatory matters. These included the representation of two senior executives in a landmark, multibillion-dollar consumer action; declinations in parallel criminal and civil investigations; a termination letter secured on behalf of an individual under SEC investigation for insider trading; and an ongoing battle over a $500 million federal forfeiture action. ADK was founded in 2023 by Christine Adams, Amy Duerk, and Adam Kamenstein. “Christine, Amy, and I never imagined we would have achieved this kind of growth in just three years,” said Adam, who serves as managing partner. “But the recognition ADK has received—including the honor of being named one of the top boutiques in the state—is proof of our team’s talent, hard work, and commitment to best-in-class client service. This is only the beginning of a long and successful future for the firm." Christine commented, “As our docket has increased in size and complexity, we’ve added more resources—from people to infrastructure—to deliver the results that clients expect from us. We’re also continuing to expand in areas where we see opportunity to do more high-level work. At the end of the day, we want to be a client’s first call when they’re facing a legal challenge that endangers their livelihood or the future of their company.”

Linda Burrow reacted on thisLinda Burrow reacted on thisDespite LinkedIn’s model showing my 25th anniversary at Horvitz & Levy LLP to have been October 1, it’s actually today. And I celebrated that anniversary by arguing to a panel in the Ninth Circuit in Pasadena. This anniversary has caused a bit of self-reflection. When I joined the firm I was only four years out of law school. And while I thought I knew everything, it turns out there was much still to learn. Special thanks to wonderful early mentors at the firm who helped shape me into the appellate lawyer I am today — Barry Levy, David Axelrad, Jon Eisenberg, Lisa Perrochet, John Taylor, and many others. By the numbers, it’s been quite a ride. I’m closing in on 1000 appellate briefs and 100 appellate arguments. My name is on more than 200 opinions including more than 100 published ones. And each year seems to get better. Today was my seventh appellate argument of the year that I delivered. I watched many more in my cases argued by outstanding colleagues. And lots of wins this year too. Six wins (at least in part) in anti-SLAPP appeals, a ninth circuit reversal reinstating an important civil rights complaint regarding antisemitism in public schools, a petition for review granted in an important standing case, and waiting for hopefully winning opinions from the Ninth Circuit in a Title IX case and the California Supreme Court in a water law case. And I’ve had some success in trial court consulting too with recent decisions involving challenges regarding a state regulation in superior court and an order denying class certification in NDCA. I’m not sure I’ll be practicing for another 25 years but I look forward to many more years of great colleagues, great clients, and lots of wins.

Linda Burrow liked thisLinda Burrow liked thisReuven Cohen, a founding partner of Cohen Williams (CW), has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in the world. The induction ceremony took place before an audience of almost 1,000 during the College’s recent Annual Meeting in New York City. Founded in 1950, the College is widely recognized as the preeminent organization of trial lawyers in North America, composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. Fellowship is extended by invitation only, following a rigorous investigation process, to experienced trial lawyers who have demonstrated the highest standards of trial advocacy, ethical conduct, professionalism, civility, and collegiality. Candidates must have at least 15 years of trial experience before consideration for fellowship. Reuven is a first-chair trial lawyer who represents clients in high-stakes criminal and civil litigation across the United States. Over the past two decades, he has successfully tried scores of nationally significant cases to verdict in federal and state courtrooms across the country, often prevailing in adverse circumstances against the government or the world's largest law firms. This track record has earned him a reputation as go-to counsel for clients seeking to win the unwinnable case. CW’s managing partner Marc Williams said, “This is a richly deserved honor for my longtime friend and colleague. In the course of my career, I have met few people who are as brilliant, hard-working, and well-respected as Reuven. He is truly the consummate trial lawyer and legal professional.” Katy Erskine, partner and head of CW’s employment litigation practice, added, “Reuven is a lawyer unlike anyone else in my experience. I've known him for more than 20 years, and I am repeatedly humbled by his skill, his complete dedication to his clients, and his love of his craft. I'm so happy that his singular combination of talent, intelligence, and humanity is being celebrated with this honor.”

Linda Burrow reacted on thisLinda Burrow reacted on thisOne year ago, I joined Airbnb to lead Public Policy for Southeast Asia. I came in believing that travel could open the tourism economy to more people. A year in, I have a much richer sense of what that means in practice, and how differently it plays out from one country to the next. What has stood out most is how much the role of a home is evolving. Travelers are asking more of where they stay: room for family to be together, space to rest and recover, a way into a place’s culture rather than just a view of it. At the same time, cities and towns are finding that existing homes can flex to meet moments of peak demand without the cost of building for a few busy weeks. That flexibility has turned out to matter just as much in hard times as in celebratory ones. We've been there to offer support - through the great work that Airbnb.org does providing emergency housing to displaced persons, and through our seasonal event support for major events in cities big & small. I’ve also come to appreciate that the most important part of this work happens in conversation. Tourism and housing sit close together, and the questions they raise rarely have tidy answers. The most productive discussions I’ve had this year have been the ones where policymakers, hosts and industry came to the same table willing to listen, including when we didn’t all agree. What’s clear is that the opportunity in Southeast Asia is immense, and so is the uncertainty. Getting it right will take policy that is practical, proportionate and able to adapt. At the centre of it, a shared commitment to making sure local communities benefit as the landscape changes. One of the great privileges of this role has been working with a team of talented individuals who have immense thoughtfulness and heart. There is nothing more rewarding than doing challenging work with great people. Thank you for making this first year such a meaningful one! Shop at any of AVP's Southern California locations and make a point-of-sale donation in support of SOSC. #WeAreSOSC #AVPSOSC #Albertsons #Vons #Pavilions On your way home, stop at a Jersey Mike's location and pick up a couple of subs. And on March 25, Jersey Mike's "Day of Giving," order lunch for your entire office, or your neighborhood fire department, or a homeless shelter (and do "double-good"), because on that day, all of Jersey Mike's SoCal sales - that's sales, not profits - will be contributed to SOSC!! #JerseyMike’sGives #MonthOfGiving #SpecialOlympics #WeAreSOSC
