Leonard Lee reposted thisLeonard Lee reposted thisBeyond the Walled Garden: Webex’s Agentic AI and Open Ecosystem Strategy What truly stood out from the keynote was not just a set of new features, but a clear articulation of a strategic shift from assistive AI to agentic AI. This is a significant move that will have ripple effects across the industry. Three announcements, in particular, exemplify this: 1/ The Introduction of AI Agents for the Webex Suite: Debut of five new agents, including the Notetaker for in-person meetings, the Task Agent, and the Meeting Scheduler. This is more than an evolution of the Cisco AI Assistant; it's a redefinition of its role. The AI is no longer just a passive tool for summarizing meetings after the fact. It is being positioned as an active, "agentic teammate" that participates in workflows, automates tasks, schedules follow-ups, and even captures intelligence from spontaneous, in-person conversations. This directly addresses the market's move from individual productivity hacks to true team and workflow automation. 2/ A Deep, Pragmatic Commitment to the Open Ecosystem: The announcement of a bi-directional integration with Microsoft Copilot is a game-changer. This isn't a simple data connection; it's an example of "AI working with another AI" to break down silos between the two largest collaboration and productivity platforms. A user in Webex can pull data from SharePoint, and a user in PowerPoint can pull insights from a Webex meeting. Coupled with the native Zoom Meetings integration on Cisco devices, this demonstrates that Cisco is not building a "walled garden". Instead, it is embracing the reality of heterogeneous enterprise environments, which is a strategy that builds immense trust with customers who have investments in multiple platforms. 3/ AI Canvas for Collaboration: While many focus on user-facing features, the extension of AI Canvas to the collaboration portfolio is strategically brilliant. AI Canvas was introduced as a tool for networking and security operations. By integrating collaboration data, Cisco is creating a unified "agentic ops" platform that allows IT to troubleshoot a poor meeting experience from the application layer all the way down through the network switches and security policies in a single, collaborative interface. This is something no pure-play collaboration vendor can offer and fully leverages Cisco's entire portfolio. Leonard Lee shared thisReally big news in the Qualcomm versus Arm lawsuit. US. District Court confirms final judgement on the last remaining question out of three. "A U.S. District Court judge today granted Qualcomm Incorporated a complete victory in litigation brought by Arm Ltd., rejecting Arm’s attempts to stifle innovation and confirming that neither Qualcomm nor its subsidiary Nuvia breached Nuvia’s license agreements with Arm." Arm has been denied their request for a retrial. Qualcomm's lawsuit against Arm for breach of contract, improper conduct, and interference is still active and will go to trial in March 2026. The drama is not over but with this win, Qualcomm has a tailwind behind it, as the final judgement establishes a clear standard for the definitions of technology and intellectual property as to pursues its grievances against Arm after a decisive close to one half of the dispute. Leonard Lee shared thisI love my cameo on the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit 2025 recap that was just released. 😃 Yeah, huge improvements in X Elite support for ASIO drivers and creative software for musicians such as Abelton, and Cakewalk. The latency, really small. I was surprised how responsive the electric kit was. This is usually a nightmare on Windows machines, which is why I don't usually use Windows machines. Snapdragon is changing that. Congratulations to the Qualcomm engineering team for making their Snapdragon-powered laptops compelling tools for musicians and songwriters. It-just-works is so valuable to creators. Also, I had the chance to jam with Cooper Carter (AMAZING MUSICIAN!) on stage. It was my first time ever performing (if you can call it that) on a rather big stage with a killer musician. The weird thing, I wasn't nervous, even when I butchered Van Halen's Panama in public. Leonard Lee reacted on thisLeonard Lee reacted on thisI've written up a full-length event report about this week's ECOC Exhibition #ECOC25 optical communications conference and trade show, with some thoughts about how AI is changing the #optical marketplace. It's on my Substack - link below. It also has a bit of a primer (probably slightly naive) for a wireless specialist trying to get their heads around a very different area of networking. I think it's important to start to grasp the role of different types of optics such as direct-detect and coherent, as well as the shifts in optical system form-factors and speeds. [If you're an expert on this, please feel free to highlight / correct any errors - I'm learning too] Looking to the future, there are also some interesting discussions to have about new forms of fibre itself, such as hollow-core and multi-core. I think this has implications for the telecom sector, and also telecom policymakers, although it is mostly driven by battles between different standards, architectures and vendor "philosophies". More broadly, it aligns with one of the outputs of my recent #UnthinkableLab workshop on #Telecoms + #AI: the growing divergence and misalignment between telecoms, AI, cybersec, infrastructure and sovereignty policies and regulations. For instance, the myopic focus by some policymakers on 5G/6G as being “ground zero” for the future of AI is palpable nonsense. The secondary focus on subsea cable risks is more salient, but it still misses the central aspects of AI connectivity. Regulating IP #interconnect (or private networks for AI/cloud) looks even more stupid, given the criticality and furious pace of evolution of both and the central role they play in AI evolution. Creating a sovereign cloud “stack” for hardware looks even harder than a software stack, and goes far beyond just GPUs. And as a teaser for some future work... I'm starting to look at the wider telecoms / AI / cloud world through the lens of a 3-way battle between NVIDIA, Qualcomm & Broadcom and their different "ideologies". More soon. Over the past few years, we didn't just iterate; we executed a major product strategy pivot, driving significant market relevance for our GPU IP in AI at the Edge and delivering for our industry-leading customers. That success belongs to a truly world-class, brilliant, and resilient group. I wish you all the very best. As I transition, I’m focused on one core challenge in the European DeepTech landscape: translating pioneering technical talent into global, scalable commercial businesses.
