There's pride in every Whataburger.

About us

On Aug. 8, 1950, an adventurous and determined entrepreneur named Harmon Dobson opened up the world’s first Whataburger on Ayers Street in Corpus Christi, Texas. He had a simple goal: to serve a burger so big it took two hands to hold and so good that after one bite customers would say, “What a burger!” He succeeded on both counts and turned that one little burger stand into a legend loved throughout Texas and the South. Today, each and every Whataburger is made to order, right when it’s ordered. And they’re still made with 100 percent pure, never-frozen beef and served on a big toasted five-inch bun with all “the extras” to suit your taste. Grilled jalapeños, extra bacon, three slices of cheese, no tomatoes, extra pickles? No problem. Your Whataburger will be made just like you like it, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Whataburger’s following has grown exponentially in its more than 75-year history, thanks to a number of features, including its famous burgers and growing list of menu items, its iconic orange-and-white-striped restaurants and its famous Fancy Ketchup. Whataburger is more than a burger chain. It’s a place that feels like home to more than 51,000 employees, called Family Members, and millions of customers. It’s a brand built on pride, care and love. It’s a place people count on in their communities. It’s a place where goodness lives. So now with more than 1,100 Whataburger restaurants across 16 states stretching from Las Vegas to the Carolinas, road-trippers and hometown folks alike continue gathering under the big orange-and-white roofs for fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly service.

  • Get your biscuit while it’s haute! 👜 Ashley Bean Thornton is a Whataburger superfan, and she's started her day with a Sausage Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuit Sandwich nearly every morning for more than a decade. So, for Ashley's birthday, we brought her friends and family in to her local restaurant for a party and gave her a one-of-a-kind gift: a custom-made, hyper-realistic Jalapeño Cheddar Biscuit purse! Thanks, Ashley, for all your support over the years and for making our mornings a little brighter! We hope your purse is proof that great taste never goes out of style.

  • Let's hear it for Lilly Underbrink! 🧡 The 9-year-old wanted to do something to help with recovery from the Texas Hill Country flooding this month. So, she opened Lilly's Lemons lemonade stand to raise funds for the cause, and earned more than $140+ to support our Cups That Care program. When she came to pick up her Collectible Cups at her local Whataburger, we had a special swag bag waiting for her along with lots of high-fives and hugs from our team members. Reminder: The Cups That Care program continues through the end of July, and 100% of the purchase price of our first Collectible Cups collection will go directly to flood relief. You can purchase the cups in our restaurants or drive thrus, or online at shop.whataburger.com. To date, we've raised more than $600,000 — help us get to $750,000 to help our neighbors in need!

Whataburger Family Member Evin had always wanted to try her hand at being a mascot, and we needed a well-trained WhataGuy. So, we called a furry friend in Arizona to get her ready for the moment… As we celebrate our 75th anniversary, check out the full version of Evin’s story (or one of the other 74) here — and share your own: https://lnkd.in/e37vJnUv

UPDATE: Whatafans who want to support flooding relief efforts in the Texas Hill Country with our Cups That Care — but are too far from the wonderful glow of our orange and white restaurants to support the cause — now have a solution! The three cups in the first set are now available in the Whatastore at shop.whataburger.com, and through the rest of July, all proceeds will continue to go towards relief efforts. Since launching the campaign, nearly 200,000 cups have been sold! 🧡 Help us get to 400,000 — every dollar goes to flood relief and recovery.

  • Our hearts are heavy following the tragedy and widespread damage in the Texas Hill Country last weekend, but our teams in the area have been focused on providing hot meals for the first responders, local agencies, and volunteers on the ground lending a hand. Today, we're introducing another way to help. As we begin on the road to recovery, Whataburger is donating $100,000 to local relief organizations. In addition, through the rest of July, Whataburger will donate 100% of the purchase price from our first Commemorative Cup collection to flood relief. You can purchase the limited-edition cups at participating Whataburger restaurants across our entire 17-state footprint. Texas is our home, and we are proud to stand strong with our neighbors in the Hill Country to bring hope and relief to those who need it most.

  • Our hearts are with Kerrville and the surrounding communities affected by the recent floods. We’re deeply saddened by the lives impacted and devastation left behind. We send strength and hope to those still waiting for answers, and we are also supporting and feeding emergency responders on the ground. We know the process of recovery and rebuilding isn’t just about responding in a moment of crisis, but in supporting our neighbors in the months ahead, offering care, comfort, and compassion. We're grateful for the first responders, community and faith leaders and other businesses and individuals making a difference. #KerrvilleStrong

  • Cheers to new flavors! 🩷💚 We've got a refreshing new drink launching July 1st, but before the Prickly Pear Raspberry Whatafresher is available to the public, we had a little sip-and-see with our Family Members at the home office. A lot of effort has gone into getting the Whatafresher and its rollout just right, and based on the smiles we saw, the work has been worth it! Can't wait to see those smiles from our customers — loyalty members on the Whataburger app can find a sneak preview on June 30. 👀
