Have you heard? Our eVinci® microreactor was selected by U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for testing in the National Reactor Innovation Center | NRIC Demonstration of Microreactor Experiments (DOME) facility at Idaho National Laboratory. Why this matters: Our #microreactor will be among the first to test in the DOME, playing a pivotal role in President Trump’s efforts to unleash American #nuclear innovation. Throwback Thursday to 1896 when a Westinghouse-Tesla team powered the world's first large-scale hydroelectric power plant at Niagara Falls. This was the first commercial transmission of electricity over a long distance, sending power 20+ miles to Buffalo! The Niagara Power Station No. 1 generated up to 37 megawatts of electricity in the 1900s. Today, a single AP1000® reactor can generate over 1 gigawatt of electricity! 📸 credits to the Tesla Memorial Society of New York at https://bit.ly/4kQMxqE

Milestone reached at the historic Palisades Nuclear Power Plant restart in Michigan! Through our Nuclear Excellence Academy (NEXA), the plant's training dept. has achieved full INPO accreditation across all key training programs. Palisades ceased operations in 2022 but is expected to come online by the end of this year, setting a precedent for the restart of other shuttered plants looking to reopen. 💧 During reactor cavity flood-up for refueling outages, leakage through the sandboxes that house piping and instrumentation can be a major concern. Even minor leakage can cause damage or corrosion to the equipment inside the sandbox, and significant leakage can require the plant to drain down again —increasing outage duration and dose. 💡 As a solution, Westinghouse has developed a replacement sandbox cover design to reduce risk/costs associated with leakage issues. This cover can be pneumatically tested to confirm there are no leaks prior to cavity flood-up. It can also incorporate a hinge that allows the covers to rotate and lock to the open position for maintenance and during operation, as well as bolt to the cavity floor for flood-up ↪️ reducing time spent removing and installing current sandbox covers from the reactor cavity, which frees up outage time. 🔗 For more info on our unique cover: https://bit.ly/4kQqLDC
