Just announced: President Trump has officially imposed tariffs on imports of certain downstream copper products following the Administration’s Section 232 investigation into the national security risks of foreign copper dependency.   Upon initial review, the Copper Development Association (CDA) believes these new trade protections, which appear to be highly aligned with the recommendations submitted on behalf of CDA's fabricator members, will supercharge domestic production. While a thorough review of the forthcoming details will be important to understand the impacts, here’s what we know so far:  - 50% tariffs on imported semi-finished copper products (pipes, wires, rods, tubes, etc.) and copper-intensive derivatives (fittings, cables, components). - No tariffs on upstream input materials such as copper ores, cathodes, anodes, and scrap. - Targeted export controls prioritizing U.S. sales of domestically produced copper scrap and input materials. - Measures take effect August 1, more details to follow in the FRN.   The 232 report confirms – copper is critical to U.S. defense, manufacturing, and energy leadership. The new protections are a powerful step toward securing a resilient domestic copper supply chain.   CDA and its members stand ready to support implementation and help unleash American copper!   #CopperIsCritical #Section232 #USManufacturing #NationalSecurity #MadeInUSA #EnergyTransition Fact Sheet: https://lnkd.in/g-fkkAw8 Proclamation: https://lnkd.in/exT9KAJx

We are so grateful to have been able to partner with LIFT again this year to host the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄 high school bootcamp in Detroit. Thanks to our generous sponsor, 16 students from across Michigan got to explore advanced manufacturing technologies including heavy metals, welding, CNC programming, 3D printing and additives, robotics, and drones at no cost. In our program assessments, over 94% of participants said the experience helped them gain confidence in their potential career interests. One student said this about their experience: "𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘮𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘛𝘌𝘔. Hands-on experiences at this pivotal age make a difference—one parent shared this: "𝘔𝘺 𝘴𝘰𝘯 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘰 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘥 𝘧𝘶𝘯 𝘥𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘵! A huge thanks to all who made this possible—from industry partners Weldaloy Specialty Forgings and Kawasaki Robotics who hosted us for behind-the-scenes facility tours, to the amazing teams at Michigan Central and Newlab Detroit, to inspirational guest speakers from the Women of Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (WAIAM). It takes a village to build the future, and we are indebted to all who collaborated with us to inspire the next generation. #watchlearndo #earlytalentdevelopment #manufacturing

  • Weldaloy Specialty Forgings hosted a group of students participating in a career program investigating opportunities in tech and manufacturing. Our metallurgy lab was the star attraction, but the forge, ring mill, and machine shop also impressed. Thanks to Michigan Technological University, Christine Longroy of LIFT, and Tony Vernaci of Aerospace Industry Association of Michigan (AIAM), and for the opportunity to showcase our campus and team.

Senior Vice President and Chief Technology & Operations Officer

Halfway through 2025, the Technology & Operations team is driving results for our customers as reflected in today’s second quarter earnings report. https://lnkd.in/gRjRurK9 We’re working as one team across supply chain, quality, manufacturing, and engineering, alongside our suppliers, to activate FLIGHT DECK and unlock constraints to improve delivery. I want to thank all our GE Aerospace teams and our supplier base for your hard work on this. Technology innovation remains a key differentiator with a continued investment in R&D to improve the performance of our engines flying today and advance the future of flight. We’re also leveraging learnings across the product portfolio. A great example is our focus on improving durability across GEnx, CFM LEAP and GE9X engines, introducing hardware updates and replicating real-world conditions with a proprietary dust mixture in testing. These insights are being incorporated into the CFM RISE technology program, which prioritizes safety, durability, and efficiency. This video explains more: https://lnkd.in/gbRfYWh2 While there’s always room for improvement, I’m proud of how the team rises to every challenge.
