Enough is enough: major publishers are closing ranks to put a stop to AI's free ride. “We’re seeing the industry come together to really think through what an ongoing payment structure between publishers and AI companies looks like.” Our CSO Paul Bannister talked to Digiday's Seb Joseph and Sara Guaglione about what prompted last week's discussion at IAB Tech Lab and why it matters. What happens when the father of modern-day travel gives you a shoutout? For Jeff Tucker and Rob Kvidt, it crashed their site—and put Beat of Hawaii on the map. Arthur Frommer saw what millions of readers have since: a unique perspective on Hawaii travel news that only they can deliver. We’re proud to partner with creators like Jeff and Rob, whose trusted voice and expertise set the standard for quality content. Read their story: https://lnkd.in/eNGn8PtU

We asked 3,000 adults how they felt about AI-generated content and the ads appearing alongside it. The results? Perception matters more than reality. If people thought content was AI-generated—whether or not it really was—they rated it as less trustworthy. The same was true for ads associated with this content. Our Chief Strategy Officer Paul Bannister and SVP, Data Strategy & Insights Anna Blender talked to Trishla Ostwal of ADWEEK about the survey results and what they mean for advertisers: https://lnkd.in/eG9aXrJ4

"This isn’t the time to sit back while AI companies help themselves to the internet’s creative work. At Raptive, we work with publishers to find ways to help them better protect their content and prepare for what’s next." Our Chief Growth Officer Marc McCollum is in Digital Content Next today with a fantastic post on Why ‘do not scrape’ policies matter more than you think. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eaSzEGQM

For the last year, we’ve been keeping a very close eye on Google’s Recipe Quick View pilot program. While it was framed as a faster way for readers to reach recipes, it essentially cut creators out of the picture. As our Chief Growth Officer Marc McCollum told Julia Love and Davey Alba for Bloomberg, compensation offered to creators in the pilot wasn't nearly enough to offset declines in their advertising revenue. The long term impact could have been devastating, hurting creators’ revenue, making their business unsustainable, and decimating the amount of new food content available online. We, alongside our creator community, have been vocal about our opposition to this program. We’ve been collecting internal data about its downsides, and sharing that message with Google. And it worked. Google recognized that the downsides far outweighed any positive impact, and the Recipe Quick View pilot has been cancelled. This is excellent news, not just for food creators but for creators from all verticals. We’ll be celebrating the news by visiting Raptive creator sites for our Fourth of July recipes, and we hope you’ll do the same! 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eZsvUfdz

Today marks a big win for creators and publishers! Cloudflare is now blocking AI crawlers by default for users on their free plan—making it harder for AI companies to scrape and monetize content without consent. Cloudflare is one of the largest CDNs on the internet, so this is an important shift towards reshaping how content is protected online. We’ve been part of the conversations leading up to this moment, and we’re excited to see meaningful progress that puts creators first. More details on the policy—and why it matters for the future of publishing—on the newsroom: https://lnkd.in/eCg3Dhz8
