Raising the Talent Bar in Private Equity | $1B+ Impact on PE-Backed Businesses | CEO, Thrive Resources | PE Talent Acquisition & Leadership Development

How do top CEOs build trust with their PE sponsors? A 3X exit CEO explains ↓ In our Thrive Community Q&A, Jeff Oravitz, CEO with three PE-backed exits, shared what most executives miss: ➤ “You have to understand what the sponsor expects and mold yourself to that. They have a lot of invested capital and deserve to know what’s happening.” Here’s what Jeff broke down: ➤ Be transparent early Sponsors don’t want surprises. They want clear, timely updates. ➤ Manage expectations Don’t just assume alignment. Ask questions. Then deliver on what matters. ➤ Know they are stretched Your sponsor likely oversees several companies and reports to LPs. Keep your updates simple, relevant, and tied to value. ➤ Don’t wait for a playbook They will not hand you one. It’s your job to build the relationship. If you’re leading in PE, this is part of the job. Communication is execution. 📝 Want access to the full Q&A with Jeff? Join our community here: https://lnkd.in/ea7E9j53

  • Here’s what the best operators are doing to land roles in private equity ↓ (They’re not just updating their resumes.) They’re positioning themselves before the deal is even announced. PE firms don’t hire because you’re impressive. They hire when a deal closes and a specific problem needs to be solved. If you want the role, you need to be the answer before they start asking questions. Here’s how to stay ready: ✔ Track deals in your sector ↳ Know which firms are buying and what they’re targeting ✔ Align your expertise with portfolio-level pain points ↳ Think integration, turnaround, growth, or exit ✔ Show your thinking publicly ↳ Use LinkedIn to signal value without signaling you’re on the market ✔ Stay visible ↳ PE firms remember the operators who show up with clarity and timing Want to see where top execs go for deal flow and PE insights? You’re not getting ruled out because of what’s on your resume. (Here's the truth) ⤵️ You’re getting ruled out because of how it reads in private equity. The truth is, most executive resumes don’t land because they introduce risk. Not on purpose. But through signal. Here are five things that quietly turn off PE hiring teams: ➤ Too much detail You're not writing a biography. If it reads like a newsletter, it's getting skipped. ➤ Vague outcomes "Led" means nothing if there's no dollar figure. No EBITDA growth, no deal impact, no call back. ➤ No industry depth Jumping between sectors? Your resume might read as a liability, not a fit. ➤ Corporate language Talking about company culture and collaboration won’t translate in a boardroom driven by ROI. ➤ No connection to the exit PEs wants to see how you think about value. If you're not positioning yourself through that lens, you're out of alignment. The strongest resumes don’t just tell a story. They present the mandate, the challenges overcome, and the outcome with attached metrics. If you want to see what that actually looks like, watch our most recent resume audit where we show you how to translate your experience into something deal-aligned and board-ready. • Think you’re creating value in PE? Here’s what sponsors actually measure ↓ Most executives believe being busy means they’re driving value. It doesn’t. In our next Thrive Community Live Q&A, Andrew Gormley, SVP of Finance with $9B in M&A experience and over $1B in enterprise value created, will break down how top operators decide what to act on, what to ignore, and how to move with confidence in investor-led environments. Here’s where top PE-backed leaders separate themselves: ➤ They prioritize what drives valuation Busy doesn’t cut it. The best know how to spot high-ROI levers fast. ➤ They think like sponsors It’s not about effort. It’s about alignment with capital, operations, and exit timing. ➤ They know when to say no PE firms respect leaders who protect focus, not just chase opportunities. ➤ They create momentum, not noise Great operators translate strategy into measurable results. Sponsors don’t reward motion. They reward results. You have the opportunity to ask questions live on June 10 at 2:30 PM ET  and learn how a $1B operator prioritizes what actually moves the needle in PE. How talent impacts value creation in private equity ⤵ (Insights from Joelle Marquis, President of Arsenal Capital Partners) In a Thrive Community private Q&A conversation hosted by Thrive’s CEO, Susanna Madden, Joelle shared why top-performing PE firms manage talent with the same discipline they apply to financial capital. At Arsenal, talent is not a support function. It is a driver of the investment outcome. Here’s how they approach it: • Talent is built into the investment thesis from the beginning • Leadership fit is assessed early alongside financial and operational risk • “A” positions are identified based on their direct impact on enterprise value • Performance is evaluated on both execution and leadership behavior • Leadership alignment is tracked through the hold period, not just at acquisition Joelle said it clearly, “We think about people and leadership as capital because it’s that important to value creation” This mindset shifts how leaders are selected, developed, and held accountable If your firm is only evaluating leadership when problems arise, you are reacting instead of protecting your return. PE success is driven by value creation. Value creation is driven by the right leadership team in the right seats Want to hear more from this conversation?
