  • As we approach the end of our Intern Spotlight campaign, we are excited to introduce our last Intern, Sreetama Sarkar. Sreetama is a third-year PhD student at the University of Southern California, where her research focuses on improving the efficiency and trustworthiness of foundation models. At SRA, she is currently working on optimizing multi-modal architectures to reduce inference overhead without compromising performance. The prospect of her research being actually deployed in Samsung TVs is both motivating and incredibly rewarding. What she likes most about SRA is the clear focus on real-world impact—developing efficient and deployable models, particularly for on-device use. This aligns closely with her own research interests in making AI models more hardware efficient. #LifeatSRA #SamsungResearchAmerica #SRASummerInterns

Summer Intern @ Samsung Research America (Bixby Lab) || CS @ USC || Research Assistant @ USC Marshall School of Business || Ex-Reliance Jio

Super happy and super late to share that I started my summer internship at Samsung Research America (SRA) about three weeks ago! I'm working with the North America Bixby Lab, diving into generative AI and on-device solutions to make voice assistants a little less annoying and a little more useful. It's been really cool working on technology that people interact with every day, from Galaxy smartphones to smart home setups. Plus, I'm picking up so much from the team here about how research in Natural Language Understanding actually becomes features that end up in real products. Three weeks down and the learning curve has been steeper than I expected, but in the best way possible. Couldn't have made it here without my family supporting this journey every step of the way, mentors who pushed me to aim higher, and friends who kept me sane through it all. Excited for the rest of the summer in the Bay Area! #LifeatSRA #SamsungResearchAmerica #Bixby #SummerInternship

  • As we continue our Intern Spotlight Series, we are thrilled to introduce Kyungdo Kim. Kyungdo is an Intern in the Digital Health Team at SRA and a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. Prior to his doctoral studies, he worked as a medical AI engineer in a hospital setting. His research focuses on developing a multimodal AI neurologist for conditions such as Parkinson’s disease by integrating diverse data sources, including electronic health records (EHRs) and personal life logs like biosignals and movement data. He joined SRA to deepen his work with hardware and biosignals, drawn by the opportunity to explore a wide range of signals from emerging devices. At SRA, he is investigating novel types of signals to identify potential new biomarkers. Although the work is challenging due to limited existing references, he finds the process exciting, as each step contributes to new scientific insights. Kyungdo values SRA’s openness to innovation and its support for interns to pursue original ideas. The availability of large-scale, diverse signal data sets provides a unique environment for exploratory research. Outside of work, he enjoys California’s weather, stays active with regular workouts, and spends his free time exploring new places. #LifeatSRA #SamsungResearchAmerica #SRASummerInterns

  • As a Design Strategist Intern at the Samsung Design Innovation Center in San Francisco, Charlie McCormick has been working at the intersection of emerging consumer technologies and user experience. While at the studio, he has begun to explore how cutting-edge technologies can enable more thoughtful, human-centered experiences that address the evolving needs of life at home. Prior to his current role, Charlie built a career in strategy roles, helping companies uncover new growth areas and product opportunities. He will return to UC Berkeley to complete his MBA after the summer, but for now, he’s energized by the opportunity to learn more about how Samsung transforms bold ideas into real-world products. Charlie is grateful for the chance to contribute, collaborate, and grow alongside such a forward-thinking team. #LifeatSRA #SamsungResearchAmerica #SRASummerInterns
