"Find the helpers." It’s where we begin when the unimaginable happens. For our Texas team, this story is deeply personal. Many haven’t stopped working since the evacuation alerts rang out early on July 4th morning. Since then, we’ve focused on more than headlines. We’re finding the humanity behind the devastation, asking smart questions about how this happened, and zeroing in on how our communities can rebuild and recover. Most importantly, we’re honoring the lives lost—so many lives lost. There’s no making sense of that. But we can make a difference—by showing up, staying present, and covering the impact not just for days or weeks… but until recovery isn’t a headline, but a reality.

Journalism, Education & Social Policy Student at Northwestern University

Last week, I graduated from Northwestern University as the first-ever dual-degree recipient from the Northwestern University Medill School and the Northwestern University School of Education and Social Policy. I am thrilled to return to the Bluegrass State and embark on a new chapter as a multimedia journalist at Spectrum News 1 in Louisville, Kentucky. This role is a full-circle moment, as my first internship at Spectrum News reaffirmed my love for character-driven journalism. Thank you to everyone at Spectrum News 1 in Raleigh for allowing me the space to grow as an inexperienced college freshman, and a huge thanks to Tracey Early Donovan for an incredible recruiting process. To my mentors, Beth Bennett, Ed.D. and Felicia Bolton, I am endlessly grateful to you both for always believing in me and helping shape the path I'm on today. This is only the beginning, and I am excited to learn and grow as a young reporter.

We’re always looking for better ways to connect people with information—and sometimes, that means tech. From AR to VR, we’ve used high-impact visuals to explain everything from voter turnout to measles to mental health. Today, we got even better at it. Our production manager Zach Christodoulides led a session that brought editorial and production teams together to demystify the “how” behind these tools. When more of us understand what’s under the hood, we can tell smarter stories—and reach more people. One story can make a difference. But a whole team working together? That’s how we change the world.
