  • Only 3 days until #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert! For 33+ years, Pittsburgh Mercy’s Operation Safety Net (OSN) has delivered compassionate medical care and vital support services to those experiencing homelessness in the Pittsburgh region. Under the visionary leadership of Dr. James Withers, OSN meets people where they are, providing medical care, psychiatric services, housing navigation, and homelessness prevention—addressing each person's unique needs with dignity and respect. “We wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the OSN team,” says John*, who, along with his partner, has suffered from substance use disorder for years. “They check in with us. They listen. It feels good to know they care.” *name changed to protect patient privacy

  • #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert is in 4 DAYS! After making a career switch in his mid-40s, Chris loved his job as a surgical technician—and he was good at it. But in June 2023, diabetic neuropathy of the hands and feet left Chris unable to physically meet the demands of the job. Once his short-term disability ran out, he could no longer secure stable housing. At Pittsburgh Mercy’s overflow and emergency shelters at Second Avenue Commons, he found a place where he could get the support he needed as he navigated his medical concerns and the difficulties of applying for disability benefits. “I’m so grateful for the Pittsburgh Mercy staff who made sure I kept my bed at the emergency shelter during an emergency hospital stay,” says Chris, who feared living on the streets. “They communicated with the hospital and have helped me organize and prepare for follow-up appointments... They’ve been a huge help.” Chris is now in an apartment of his own, where he is thrilled to be able to cook for himself. • Mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 5! Every year, the Pittsburgh Foundation hosts its #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert in support of nonprofits in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties that provide essential human services in five areas: child care; employment; food and nutrition; eviction prevention and housing; and physical and mental health. On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, you can help sustain the life-changing work of Pittsburgh Mercy’s Operation Safety Net and homeless services. On that day, every gift over $25 made to Pittsburgh Mercy through our Critical Needs Alert webpage will unlock prorated matching funds from The Pittsburgh Foundation incentive pool—making August 5 the best day to make a gift go even further. Check out our webpage and make a reminder to give on August 5! https://lnkd.in/ekpSTdqF

International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) || Pittsburgh – The Steel City 💛🖤 Stolica Pensylwanii przez dekady była kluczowym ośrodkiem przemysłowym USA i globalnym potentatem w zakresie produkcji stali. 🌆 To właśnie stąd pochodziła połowa stali wykorzystanej przez aliantów w czasie II wojny światowej. Po powojennym gospodarczym regresie "Stalowe Miasto" przeszło udaną transformację. Pittsburgh stał się miejscem wydarzeń kulturalnych, rozrywkowych i sportowych. Kluczową rolę odgrywają tu dziś jednak edukacja i usługi medyczne. 📚 Dlatego Pittsburgh (w tym miejsca historycznie związane z dawną hutą stali) były dla nas długim przystankiem na edukacyjnej trasie po USA. 🇺🇲 Za nami kilka dni wypełnionych spotkaniami z wybitymi pittsburskimi psychiatrami, psychologami, badaczami, edukatorami, przedstawicielami lokalnego samorządu (Allegheny County Government, Pittsburgh Mercy) – m.in. słynnym lekarzem Jimem Withersem (działania na rzecz osób w kryzysie bezdomności // CNN Top Ten Hero 2015), Kenem Thompsonem i Andreą R. Fox (wsparcie migrantów i uchodźców z różnych zakątków świata, osób zagrożonych wykluczeniem i szerzej – lokalnych społeczności). 🫶🏻 A w weekend – wspaniałe rozmowy o Polsce i Europie 🇵🇱, wspomnienia amerykańskich przyjaciół z wizyt w Krakowie k Warszawie oraz małopolskie, polskie i środkowoeuropejskie akcenty (m.in. w The Andy Warhol Museum – muzeum najsłynniejszego Łemka na świecie). Dla miłośników sportu, architektury i przyrody – zniewalające Fallingwater oraz atmosfera zmagań baseballowych Pittsburgh Pirates. ⚾️ U.S. Department of State, U.S. Embassy Warsaw, U.S. Consulate General in Krakow
