After nearly eight incredible years as CEO, I’ve made the decision to transition into the role of Executive Chairman. This means I’ll continue serving on the board and supporting the company as an advisor, but I’ll no longer be running the day-to-day.
I’m thrilled to share that our long-time CFO, Jaimeson Rice, will be stepping in as Pinwheel’s next CEO! Those who've worked with JR know just how sharp, strategic, and mission-driven he is and I can’t think of anyone better suited to lead us into this next chapter.
The past eight years have been the most rewarding, challenging, and meaningful of my life.
I still remember back to 2019 when Curtis, Anish and I were huddled in a windowless room at Grand Central Tech, drawing a whiteboard diagram for a payroll data ecosystem that would eventually become the blueprint for Pinwheel.
We took that vision and through a herculean effort turned it into a real business. Fueled by a disgusting amount of cold brew and beef jerky (good for the macros), we built game-changing products with industry leaders that have already helped improve the financial lives of tens of millions of consumers. Our founding mission was to build a better financial system and while we’ve made a huge dent, we’re still just getting started.
I am so incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved over the better half of a decade:
🚀 Built an 8-figure ARR business from scratch
🏦 Partnered with 100s of customers including many of the biggest in the world (just look at our website!)
💑 Built a world-class team and culture (the thing I’m most proud of by far)
🤝 Created a two-sided marketplace with leading payroll providers (deals that once felt impossible)
💰 Raised $77M from top-tier investors (thank you for your support)
😀 And had a hell of a lot of fun along the way! (I will never look at Korean BBQ the same way again)
With a sturdy foundation set, the company is ready for its next phase of growth. As part of this new chapter, I asked JR to take the torch with unanimous support from the board. With his leadership, and the phenomenal executive team we’ve put in place, we are in exceptionally strong hands.
As I reflect on my journey I am filled with immense gratitude. Thank you to every single Pinwheelie, past and present, who dedicated their time to building this company. Thank you to every customer and partner who believed in our vision and helped us to build it. And thank you to all the investors and supporters who helped us along the way.
This company is my proudest life achievement and I will continue to do everything I can to help Pinwheel succeed. The best is truly yet to come for this crazy team of dreamers and doers and I can’t wait to see the new heights JR will lead us to.
As for what’s next for me: stay tuned. I will share more once I can. :)
PS - I would like all of LinkedIn to know that while JR is a great leader, I take pride in the fact that I can bench press more than him (at least for now 😬 ).
