Today, we rang The Opening Bell® NYSE to celebrate the 50th anniversary of what is now known as the Vanguard 500 Index Fund, a simple idea that changed investing for millions. When Jack Bogle launched the fund in 1976, he gave individual investors a low-cost way to own a broad cross-section of the U.S. stock market. What began with considerable skepticism went on to help reshape our industry, expanding access to the long-term growth of businesses and financial markets. Indexing has succeeded because its core principles are enduring: broad diversification, low costs, long-term discipline, and the power of compounding. The lasting impact of indexing isn't what it has done for the investment industry. It's what it has done for investors: helping them keep more of their returns and build wealth over time. It was an honor to mark this milestone alongside many of the pioneers, partners, and voices who helped indexing progress from a bold idea into one of the most important innovations in modern investing. The NYSE catalyzes communities & turns moments into momentum. Last August, we hosted a launch celebration for NYSE Texas at AT&T Stadium with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, Governor Greg Abbott, 60 NYSE Texas dual-listed issuers & guests. Yesterday, NYSE Texas HQ officially opened at Old Parkland in Dallas. Once again, we celebrated with Mr. Jones and the Governor. But this time, 120 dual-listed companies joined the party because we doubled our dual-listed community in the Lone Star state! Texas is home to more NYSE-listed companies than any other state in the country, with $5 trillion in market value, across all sectors & sizes. Proud to be the first securities exchange to be incorporated in Texas & very proud to show off our gorgeous new office. Even Jerry Jones was awestruck! He was sharper, wittier, funnier & more charming this year, which was a Texas-sized hurdle because of his gracious hospitality last year. A reminder to always set the bar higher, no matter the age. No matter the stage. Classy people "up their game" in every setting.
