New York and nine Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) state partners are celebrating continued bipartisan success in promoting clean air, health, and economic benefits across the region. RGGI reduced emissions of carbon dioxide from the power sector in New York State by more than 50 percent from 2005 levels and is making the energy transition more affordable, with auction proceeds totaling $2.88 billion to date for investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, and electrification. The recently released Third Program Review marks these and many other achievements and sets the stage for future progress. New York will soon begin a rulemaking process to incorporate the latest RGGI updates with opportunity for public input as we continue to fine tune this effective program that improves public health, the economy and ensures clean and affordable electricity for households, businesses and communities.
